Darth Vader once returned to Tatooine and slaughtered a group of Tusken Raiders, much like he did as Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. However, this time, he fully embraced the dark side, leading to the massacre which would ultimately make it so other Tusken Raiders worshipped him as a god – even sacrificing the lone survivor of the second brutal attack in his name.

One of the darkest moments from Anakin Skywalker, before he turned to the dark side, happened in the second installment of the prequel trilogy from George Lucas. In the film, he senses something is wrong with a mother on Tatooine and when he finds her, she dies after being taken by the Tusken Raiders. In his grief, Anakin murders everyone at the campsite in revenge. In Star Wars: Darth Vader #1 (2015), Vader returns to Tatooine and finishes what he started as he massacres even more of the Tusken Raiders, announcing that “all my present business is concluded,” while standing over a group of fiery corpses.

Star Wars: Darth Vader #25 (2015) by Kieron Gillen, Max Fiumara, Dave Stewart, and VC’s Joe Caramagna shows what happened during Vader’s second massacre, revealing there was a lone survivor of the deadly encounter. The comic shows the survivor hiding as they see his tribe murdered. They travel far away from death and destruction and grieve the loss of their fellow Tusken Raider in front of a campfire. However, while they grieve, they’re knocked out and taken by another group of Tuksen Raider’s, led by a shaman. They recount Anakin’s first slaughter and how it led them to view Darth Vader as a literal god. The comic ends with the surviving Tusken Raider being tied up and burned at the stake in front of a massive Vader tribute, as they sacrifice him to avoid another attack by the Sith Lord.

The clan that sacrificed the surviving Tusken Raider, likely burned them alive to avoid another attack at the hands of the powerful villain. It’s sad the surviving Tusken Raider witnessed his entire tribe being massacred only to seemingly find refuge, but it turned out the other clan thought they needed to sacrifice him in order to please Darth Vader.

The short story is incredibly impactful, showing just how the victims of Vader can be changed by his actions. The Tusken Raiders that viewed him as a god only did so, because they saw his true power. After the second massacre, the lone surviving Tusken Raider still was killed in the name of Vader. It’s a tragic tale and shows even after Darth Vader has made his mark, his presence never fully goes away.
