Much has surely changed for The Mandalorian’s titular hero and Baby Yoda by the time ofStar Wars: Rise of Skywalker.Disney+’s The Mandalorian TV series takes place just five years after Luke Skywalker’s victory and the Empire’s defeat in Return of the Jedi, which puts it more than two decades behind the timeline of events depicted in Disney’s Star Wars sequel trilogy.

In The Mandalorian, it was revealed that remnants of the Empire preserved after Return of the Jedi. This revelation makes sense, based on how things play out in the Star Wars sequels. At this point, these remnants have gained in power and resources and have become considerably stronger. It was later revealed that they were secretly being led by their original ruler, Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). It was a hard-fought battle, but their fall was finally secured with Palpatine’s death at the end of Rise of Skywalker.

Given that there’s a 26-year gap between The Mandalorian and Rise of Skywalker, it’s worth wondering what became of Mando and his ward. In the season 1 finale, Mando was entrusted with the task of training Yoda and reuniting him with his own people. If Mando did find a group of characters to become the new caretakers of Baby Yoda, there’s a good chance he’s living peacefully on a faraway planet somewhere in the galaxy. Since there seems to be little knowledge of the Jedi and Yoda’s race in the region of the galaxy where The Mandalorian is set, it could be that wherever Baby Yoda currently lives, it’s place that’s far removed from the conflicts that occur between the rebels and the Empire.

If Baby Yoda does end up becoming a Jedi, it’s unlikely to have happened yet, considering how his species ages. He’s stated to be 50 in The Mandalorian, so he should be close to 80 in Rise of Skywalker. Even so, he wouldn’t be too much closer to being an adult or even an adolescent. As for Mando, he was somewhere in his 30s when he was last seen, so he should be in his late 50s or early 60s now.

Assuming Mando has managed to survive the hazards that come with his occupation as a bounty hunter, he could still be active in the Star Wars universe. Though he’s near the retirement age and his body may not be as strong as it used to be, it seems reasonable that Mando’s work has kept him in shape well enough for him to still go on missions for Greef Karga’s rebuilt Bounty Hunter’ Guild. That being said, Mando probably isn’t taking the high-risk jobs he was getting in The Mandalorian anymore. Another possibility is that in Mando’s adventures, he came across another surviving group of Mandalorians. If so, he could have joined up with them. As a seasoned warrior, he could have risen to a leadership position.
