Eric Barone, the creator and lead developer of Stardew Valley, reveals a new boss battle track for his upcoming title Haunted Chocolatier. Haunted Chocolatier is a yet-to-be-released game where players assume the role of a new-to-town chocolatier. Players then bake and sell chocolates in their own shop, with apparent assistance from some friendly ghosts.

Eric Barone’s first published project, Stardew Valley, is a farming simulator that was first released on Windows back in 2016. It became an instant hit and reached astounding numbers in sales in a short amount of time. ConcernedApe, Eric Barone’s alias and the name of his game development company, was the only developer working on the game until 2019. He has since brought on several other developers to keep the game updated, but only after working on the game on his own for seven years. This includes doing all of the art, sound effects, music, writing, and programming by himself.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Eric Barone recently had a livestream to discuss the soundtrack of Stardew Valley, only to also drop several music themes for Haunted Chocolatier. The first is a lively and upbeat buzzy track Barone called “beeboss,” hinting that players will fight a bee enemy at some point in the game. This was a double surprise, as Barone had yet to reveal that Haunted Chocolatier‘s combat would include boss battles. This already takes Haunted Chocolatier one step further away from Stardew Valley, as Stardew only has hordes of small enemies to fight. The other song Barone shared was titled “Pristine Snow,” which was a more peaceful yet somber melody. This song felt more familiar to his work in Stardew Valley, and he stated that “most of the music in the game will probably sound like this” (via PC Gamer).

Barone is aiming to do the same with Haunted Chocolatier as he did with Stardew Valley, for when he announced the game in 2021 he mentioned that he would once again be developing it solo. This means everything, including the music, is all done by him. This is very apparent from the trailer which shows art and design choices very similar to Stardew Valley.

The game is still well in its development phase, but Eric Barone is devoting most of his time and energy to making it. This glimpse into the music, battles, and bosses was just one part of the large task he is taking on making the entire game. While being the sole developer may mean the release date is still a long way away, it does inspire hope that Haunted Chocolatier will have the same amount of attention to detail and devotion as Stardew Valley did.
