Starfield is not coming to other platforms, according to an Xbox executive. Despite this already having been known, there have been some recent comments and speculation that began to give some fans hope in regards to Starfield being multi-platform. As a result, Xbox had to step in to clear things up once again and be as explicit as possible about where the game can be played.

At E3 2021, Microsoft attempted to clear up any confusion by outright stating Starfield is an Xbox exclusive. Still, some people just don’t buy it. Given games like Minecraft have continued to exist outside of the Xbox ecosystem, it makes sense why there is some speculation over this. That said, Minecraft is a much, much larger franchise than anything Bethesda has, so it makes more sense to allow that game to continue to thrive on other platforms. Xbox still hasn’t convinced everyone that Starfield isn’t coming to PlayStation, though.

Xbox marketing exec Aaron Greenberg noted on Twitter that Starfield will only be on Xbox and PC and there are no plans to change this before or after it releases. This all comes following some comments from Bethesda exec Pete Hines who suggested games like Starfield could come to PlayStation or non-Xbox platforms later, though it sounded as if it was more speculation that anything could happen rather than this is something that is being planned. There is always the chance that Starfield and other future Bethesda games could come to PlayStation should some rather historic deal be made between Microsoft and Sony, but that will likely be years from now – if it ever happens.

Xbox is clearly having troubles communicating its deal with Bethesda and to be fair, a lot of executives from both companies have danced around the exclusivity question multiple times. Although the answer seems to be straightforward and concrete for Starfield, people are still largely unsure of what to expect from games like The Elder Scrolls 6. With Starfield being an expansive game from one of the best developers in the industry, it’s no surprise that some are really hoping to see it on PlayStation as well. That said, it’s been made clear multiple times that it’s not happening.

Although it will upset people, it shows that the multi-billion dollar investment into Bethesda was a great move on Xbox’s part. There’s clearly high demand for the studio’s games and if people really do want to play games like Starfield, they’ll likely find a way to get their hands on an Xbox or a gaming PC. Whether or not people will still believe there’s a chance the game will come to other platforms after it launches remains to be seen, but it seems likely people will still hold out hope.
