Stargirl is getting a new team in season 2 with Injustice Unlimited, but who are they and why is Cindy Burman recruiting them? In season 1, Cindy, the daughter of the Dragon King, was set on following in her father’s footsteps. She went to extremes to get her way in a bid to fight Courtney Whitmore and the newly reformed Justice Society of America. However, with the Injustice Society of America now in shambles once more, Cindy has a new plan that will once again cause some tension between her and the JSA.

Cindy (aka, Shiv) was not happy with the way things turned out at the end of Stargirl season 1. After Stargirl, Hourman, Dr. Mid-Nite and Wildcat defeated the ISA and thwarted their plans to brainwash Blue Valley, Cindy found her way to the storage cellar to pull out the diamond holding the supervillain Eclipso. Cindy is still up to no good in season 2 as she returns with vengeance on her mind, a new ally in Eclipso, and a plan to build a new team of villains from a file labeled Injustice Unlimited.

The members of Injustice Unlimited were hand-picked by the ISA and the team was planned to consist of some familiar faces, including Henry King Jr., the now-deceased son of Brainwave. But who are the Injustice Unlimited in the comics and what role will they play in Stargirl season 2? There’s certainly a reason Cindy has chosen the new team. Here’s everything to know about the blossoming villain group.

Injustice Unlimited (& Comics Origin) Explained

Injustice Unlimited is an offshoot of the ISA, primarily made up of the children of the latter team. Fans saw how original ISA members like Brainwave and Dragon King were setting up their children to embrace their powers and take over from them one day. Injustice Unlimited is basically a new version of the ISA, an extension of what they started and which is exemplified by the file that was left in storage in the hopes that the team would eventually come to fruition. Cindy has nothing to lose by bringing a new team together and it makes sense she would do so considering she is now the de facto leader and the only known remnant of the ISA thus far.

In the comics, Injustice Unlimited mirrored Infinity, Inc., which was an offshoot of the JSA and was comprised of the original member’s children (just like it is in Stargirl). Similar to how the ISA and JSA mirrored each other in their villain/superhero dynamics, Injustice Unlimited and Infinity, Inc. were the same, if younger counterparts. The team consisted of The Shade, Icicle II (Cameron Mahkent), Tigress III (Artemis Crock), Vandal Savage, The Thinker, Solomon Grundy, Per Degaton, Fiddler, Brainwave, and the Gambler among others. The group didn’t exist for very long under that name, however, before reverting back to calling themselves the ISA once more. However, Stargirl may keep Injustice Unlimited around for longer now that the ISA is no longer what it used to be and working under a new name could be helpful in building their own reputation.

Who Cindy Targeted To Join Injustice Unlimited

The ISA hand-picked who would be joining Injustice Unlimited and the file full of pictures included Artemis Crock, Tigress and Sportsmaster’s daughter, Cameron Mahkent, Icicle’s son, Isaac Bowin, the Fiddler’s son, and, surprisingly, Mike Dugan, Pat’s son and Courtney’s stepbrother. These potential recruits make sense because they’re all the children of former ISA members (all of whom were killed in Stargirl season 1). The only hiccup here is that none of them know about their parents’ villainous identities and it isn’t a guarantee all of them will even want to join.

This is especially true of Cameron and Mike, who have a good head on their shoulders and seem like decent people. Cameron, however, could change his mind after he realizes Courtney and her family had a hand in the death of his father. Artemis and Isaac, on the other hand, probably won’t need much convincing as they already seem to be itching for a fight and Artemis will likely be hellbent on revenge for her parents being imprisoned. Mike is the only potential member of Injustice Unlimited that Cindy added herself. Since he isn’t a villain’s kid, it’s possible Cindy feels like corrupting Mike and recruiting him to the villainous team will give her the revenge she’s been craving against Courtney, who fought Cindy and won in Stargirl season 1.

Why Cindy & Eclipso Want To Recruit A New Villain Group

With Cindy back in Stargirl season 2, it’s easy to forget she is working with Eclipso and is likely under his influence to some extent. In the season 2 premiere, Eclipso, through a child named Bruce, corrupted Rebecca McNider. Now that he’s back (though still inside his diamond), he’s likely using Cindy to do the grunt work to replace the ISA team members lost last season. Considering Cindy immediately pulls out Eclipso’s diamond after revealing the photos suggests Injustice Unlimited is a big part of whatever he’s got planned. If the villain is primed to make a comeback, it makes sense for him to have a team he can rely on to help him fight or at least be a distraction to the JSA while he schemes in the background. Although Eclipso is still trapped inside the diamond, he will eventually show up in physical form at some point in Stargirl season 2.

How Injustice Unlimited Could Be Stargirl’s True Villains In Season 2

While there are still other members of the ISA who are expected to debut in Stargirl season 2, including The Shade, having Stargirl and the rest of the JSA take on the villainous group again would be too reminiscent of season 1. With Injustice Unlimited, however, Courtney and friends would get to fight a new team made up of people their own age. It would be pretty cool (and painfully awkward) if the JSA battled the Injustice Unlimited, realizing who they were before having to confront them at school, all without revealing their true identities. It could create a whole lot of tension and drama, which would further escalate the sticky situation. The season 2 premiere already showed how wary Courtney is of Artemis, and this is without her having done anything sinister yet.

This would also be a great way to show the JSA having to mix their superhero duties with their normal school lives, which is something that has yet to happen directly. It’s possible The Shade and Eclipso will work on the sidelines for most of the season, or become Injustice Unlimited’s leaders as the younger members answer to them. The offshoot villain team could be worthy and interesting adversaries to the JSA before the adults return fully to the forefront with whatever they have planned. Ultimately, Stargirlis all about legacy and introducing the Injustice Unlimited to fight the JSA would be the best way to show how villains and superheroes alike continue following their predecessors’ footsteps.
