Warning! Spoilers for Static: Season One #6

While Static: Season Two approaches for a summer release, characters who originally appeared in the animated series Static Shock have been teased to show up, including Ebon and Rubberband Man. As Virgil Hawkins’ team of family and friends expands, the fan favorite superhero She-Bang deserves to make her comic book debut.

Static: Season One saw the introduction of several characters who had first appeared in Static Shock. Many of both the heroes and villains from the animated incarnation of the Dakotaverse resemble their recent comic book counterparts, as designed by series artist Nikolas Draper-Ivey. From Richie Foley to Shiv and Talon, the cast is instantly recognizable to fans of the DC Animated Universe. With more characters teased to be on the way for the next season, the series is continuing to follow the legacy of Static Shock. Virgil’s team unites both family and friends over the dinner table at the Hawkins household in Static: Season One #6, written by Vita Ayala with art by Draper-Ivey. The panel teases at the growing dynamic, which could soon involve Adam Evans AKA Rubberband Man, who is referenced by Ebon in the issue’s last pages.

As the Dakotaverse grows, the fan favorite side character She-Bang from Static Shock deserves to play a part in Static: Season Two. Unlike the bang babies of Dakota City who received their powers from the experimental Alva Industries gas dispersed at the Big Bang, she was genetically engineered in a lab to be a superhero by her scientist parents. Shenice Vale AKA She-Bang only appeared in three episodes of the series, but made an impact in many fans’ memories. Similar to Static, she wore a homemade but fashionable costume with purple and red tights.

When she shows up for the first time, she is being chased by agents from her parents’ past. As her scientist mom and dad had adopted her as their own, they ran away from the lab and hoped to blend with others in Dakota. Shenice could have been confused with the average bang baby-turned-superhero, but the agents continued to pursue her as if she belonged to them. The emotional storyline was a strong point throughout the animated series, and would fit perfectly within the Dakotaverse.

Virgil’s team of high school friends, Richie, Frieda, Daisy, and Darius have been the first group of heroes in the rebooted Dakotaverse. Since Daisy is currently the only member of the group who has powers from the Big Bang aside from Virgil, She-Bang could be a strong addition. As Static crosses paths with other superheroes including Rocket, Icon, and Hardware, She-Bang could be yet another hero worthy of a title. Based on the finale’s reference to Adam Evans by Ebon, Rubberband Man could soon be joining the team, if Static: Season Two characterizes him in a similar way to the animated series.
