Stephen King has given his thoughts on Malignant, praising James Wan’s latest horror flick. The “King of Horror” is no stranger to scary stories, having penned over 63 novels himself, most of which deal with horror elements. Some of King’s best known novels include The Shining, Pet Sematary, It, and Carrie. King’s stories often involve supernatural fiction that have gone on to terrify readers throughout his lengthy career. To date, King has sold more than 350 million copies of his novels, with much of his work also adapted into films, miniseries, and TV shows.

James Wan’s 2021 American horror film, Malignant, recently released to both theaters and the HBO Max streaming service. So far, Wan’s movie has grossed $29 million worldwide at the box office, against a $40 million budget. Concerning reviews for the movie, critics seem entirely split, with some critics finding it “painfully average” and others finding it “bloodily brilliant.” Centered around Madison Mitchell (Annabelle Wallis), the film tells the story of a woman who starts to envision people being murdered, only to realize that her visions are actually happening in real life. Malignant currently holds an approval rating of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes from 136 reviews. However, Wan’s picture seems to have won over one key fan.

Posted to his Twitter handle, Stephen King, the legendary horror author praises Wan’s Malignant. King is no stranger to offering his opinion on horror movies and series. Earlier this month, King penned a tweet praising Mike Flanagan’s new Netflix horror series, Midnight Mass, calling it, “a dense, beautifully photographed terror tale that climbs to a high pitch of horror.” Additionally, King offered his services in helping to save NBC’s supernatural series, Manifest, when he simply tweeted “#SaveManifest” back in August of this year. Despite his wide pallet of horror tales, King has also recently shared that there has only ever been one horror movie he was too scared to finish, which was the original The Blair Witch Project when it was released back in 1999.

While critics and fans seem mixed over Wan’s new horror movie, King sincerely feels the film is brilliant. Given King’s expertise in all things horror, receiving praise from the author must feel like a high honor. For many fans who have yet to see Malignant, King’s high praise is sure to peak their interest.
