[Warning – Spoilers for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin ahead!]

The upcoming DLC for Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin will feature a boss fight against the original heroes from FF1, including the Warrior of Light. The original Stranger of Paradise demo and trailer confirmed that the game is a retelling of FF1 and that its heroes claimed themselves to be the Warriors of Light, but the later trailer established that the protagonist, Jack, is actually Garland, the main villain of FF1.

It’s revealed over the course of Stranger of Paradise that the game isn’t a clear-cut retelling of FF1. The Lufenians (a technologically advanced race from FF1) were manipulating the world and resetting time, in order to maintain the balance between darkness and light. Jack and his friends are pawns in this plan, as they are the “Strangers,” whose role it is to enter the world to fix the balance, and they have their memories wiped whenever the world is reset. At the end of Stranger of Paradise, Jack uses the power of Chaos to escape from the Lufenians and create a world where the true Warriors of Light can exist. Stranger of Paradise‘s final cutscene shows Jack wearing the classic Garland gear, as the four Warriors of Light open the doors to the Chaos Shrine for the first boss battle of FF1.

Stranger of Paradise is set to receive three DLC updates in its Season Pass. These updates are called Trials of the Dragon KingWanderer of the Rift, and Different FutureStranger of Paradise Creative Producer Tetsuya Nomura told Famitsu that the Different Future update will show what happens after the ending of Stranger of Paradise, as Jack will fight the Warriors of Light. The DLC will also add new weapon types to the game.

It’s likely that one of the Warriors of Light will resemble the Warrior of Light character from the Dissidia series, which is based on a drawing created by Yoshitaka Amano for FF1. One of the silhouettes in the final cutscene of Stranger of Paradise resembles the Dissidia Warrior of Light, so it’s easy to imagine that version of the character appearing in the game. The other three silhouettes are a mystery, however, and it will be interesting to see how the Stranger of Paradise DLC interprets the other Warriors of Light.

The content of the first two DLC packs for Stranger of Paradise is obvious, as Trials of the Dragon King will likely feature Bahamut, who was cut from the story of the game, and Wanderer of the Rift will likely involve a fight with Gilgamesh from FF5, who has appeared as a DLC boss in other Final Fantasy games in the past. The Different Future DLC was a mystery, until now, as Nomura has revealed that Stranger of Paradise‘s Season Pass will cap off the retelling of FF1, with Jack fulfilling his destiny, and the Stranger of Paradise memes will come full circle as he becomes Chaos.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
