Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin features the Dark Knight job, which is one of the Final Fantasy series recurring jobs. Stranger of Paradise is a retelling of FF1, but the Dark Knight job didn’t exist in that game. There was a character named Leon in FF2 who could be described as a dark knight, but the job didn’t properly debut until FF3.

In FF3, the Dark Knight job had the ability to slay enemies that could multiply upon being struck, making them essential in certain dungeons. The first Dark Knight that resembles the later iterations of the class appeared in FF4, as it was the starting job of Cecil Harvey, the protagonist of the game. Cecil eventually leaves the Dark Knight class behind and becomes a Paladin. The recurring theme of the job is that it sacrifices its HP to temporarily increase its power, a variation of which continues to this day, with the FF14 version of the Dark Knight job.

The Dark Knight job in Stranger of Paradise is classed as an Expert job. These top-tier jobs require the player to climb the skills trees in several lesser jobs to unlock. The only exception to this is a single Expert job that is unlocked after completing the game.

How To Unlock The Dark Knight Job In Stranger Of Paradise: FF Origin

In order to unlock the Stranger of Paradises Dark Knight job, the player will need to earn points in different jobs. They will need to master the right path of the Warrior Job and the left path Black Mage job. In order to unlock the Warrior job, they need to master paths in the Swordsman and Ronin jobs, and to unlock the Black Mage; they need to master a path in the Mage job. The Dark Knight can use six of the eight weapon types in Stranger of Paradise, missing out on the mace and daggers and the shield.

The Dark Knight’s main ability is Souleater, which can be turned on and off with the right trigger. Souleater drains HP while active, but it drastically increases the player’s damage output. If the player is worried about running out of health, they can learn the Dark Knight’s Drain power, a Command ability that burns two MP bars to drain HP from all nearby enemies. This means the Dark Knight is a high-risk, high reward job, which can pile on the damage in a pinch, at the risk of being brutalized during a counter. It’s a good idea to combine Souleater with the Blood Weapon tactic in Stranger of Paradise, as it can help alleviate the health loss when using offensive tactics.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
