Fans of Stranger Things have spent the last few years watching the young stars of the series grow up before their own eyes, but it’s still hard to imagine them as full-blown adults in the year 2020. Despite the ample amount of time spent between installments of the Netflix series, Stranger Things has so far taken place over just a couple of years in the mid-1980s. The Duffer Brothers created the show as a nostalgia-fueled byproduct of some of the most beloved retro titles throughout horror, sci-fi, and drama. If Stranger Things‘ plot ever decided to jump to the present day, though, the kids would be well into middle age.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Stranger Things season 1 heavily focused on the disappearance of Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) in November 1983. At the time, Will was 12 years old based on his birthdate of March 22, 1971. As for his closest friends – Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), and Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) – they too were around the age of 12. While Eleven was also deemed the same age, the group was around 13 in season 2 (October/November 1984) and 14 during season 3 (July 1985). By that time, Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink), who was also born sometime in 1971, had joined the group. The kids’ struggles from pre-teens to the brink of high school has served as a major aspect of the series aside from their dangerous encounters with elements of the Upside Down.

Based on the ages of the younger set of characters at the focus of Stranger Things, the group would be around 48 or 49 years old in the latter half of 2020. Will, specifically, would be 49 years old as he approached the anniversary of his traumatic disappearance. That said, Will and his friends wouldn’t be the only figures to carry on the horrors they previously faced. Lucas’ younger sister, Erica (Priah Ferguson), proved herself as a critical member of the Scoops Troop at just the age of 10. That would make her around 45 in 2020, and probably just as feisty as ever.

How Old Some Of The Other Stranger Things Characters Would Be In 2020

Speaking of the Scoops Troop, Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) and Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke) would currently be enjoying the beyond-50 club. Steve was slightly older than the rest of the teens featured in the debut season, and he had already graduated high school prior to the events of season 3. If he was 19 in 1985, he would be now be 54 years old. Robin, on the other hand, was a tad younger than her Scoops Ahoy co-worker. Born in 1968, Robin’s current age would be around 52. Between Steve and Robin would be Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton), both coming in at the 53 age range based on the fact that they were 18 in the most recent season.

After figuring out the ages of the kids and teens presented in Stranger Things, some fans might be wondering how old Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) would be in the present day. Hopper’s has been in his 40s throughout Stranger Things‘ first few seasons. Having been born in 1942, Hopper would now be about 78 years old. Since Joyce grew up with Hopper, she would also be approaching her 80s. Here’s hoping that every character mentioned lives long enough to reach 2020 in the Stranger Things universe!
