To promote Stranger Things season 4, Netflix has released a detailed map of the main location of Hawkins, Indiana. Season 4 of the retro fantasy horror series is coming in summer 2022 after a break of several years thanks to the show’s usual slow production pace as well as pandemic-related delays. The series, which stars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer, Winona Ryder, and David Harbour, follows a group of nerdy kids trying to save Hawkins from a variety of supernatural threats.

Hawkins is a fictional town in Roane County, Indiana. The sleepy town would have continued to be sleepy if not for one thing: the Hawkins National Laboratory, which was operated by the U.S. Department of Energy. The building was a relic of the scientific experiments being conducted during World War II. The Laboratory is the source of the portal to the Upside Down that was discovered by the lead characters in season 1, which released the monstrous Demogorgon upon the town.

Netflix asked artist Kyle Lambert, who has done the previous illustrated posters for the series, to design a map of Hawkins, which was released today. The image shows for the first time where all the show’s major locations lie relative to one another. The locations include the Hawkins National Laboratory, the Starcourt Mall (a major location from season 3 that ended up burning down), as well as places like the school, the mall, and several characters’ houses. Check out the image below:

The map design also hints at some of the mayhem that occurred throughout the series. This includes several giant monsters, a Soviet flag, a gang of bikers, and an ambulance being thrown into the air. The art also includes the Creel House, the haunted house shown in the Stranger Things season 4 trailer that will become a major location in the new season.

Stranger Things has not revealed many details yet about what will happen in season 4, and this map design certainly looks backward rather than forward as far as the plot of the series is concerned. However, once season 4 drops next year, eagle-eyed fans may be able to spot some clues as to the events of the season scattered throughout. For now, Netflix is content to keep everyone in the dark, however, but this map will serve as a nice reminder that the series is indeed finally coming back after a long three-year wait.
