Stranger Things Season 4 Secretly Confirms A Key Character Return

Netflix’s image reveals for Stranger Things season 4 have secretly confirmed the much-anticipated return of Dustin’s girlfriend, Suzie. Introduced at the beginning of Stranger Things season 3, the majority of Dustin’s friends didn’t believe that Suzie was real when he came home bragging about his summer camp romance. By Stranger Things’ season 3 finale, the teens were proved wrong, as the Utah-based Suzie (Gabriella Pizzolo) helped stop the Russians by giving Dustin the correct numbers for Planck’s constant – that is, after a notable rendition of the theme song to Never Ending Story.

After just one climactic scene, Suzie’s appearance and role within Stranger Things season 3 led to abounding theories for the upcoming installment. The most common theory suggests Suzie is a Russian spy working against Dustin and the Hawkins crew, but it’s unclear why she still would have given him the code if this were true. That said, the plausibility of Suzie returning in Stranger Things season 4 was a mystery until Netflix’s new batch of character and location images, which all but confirm that Dustin’s girlfriend is back to help the teens battle the Russians.

Stranger Things season 4’s images feature a look at Mike, Will, Jonathan, and Jonathan’s new friend Argyle sitting in a room as they stare at an unknown figure. While this image could easily have been interpreted as taking place at their new California home, the details of the room reveal that this scene is set at Suzie’s house in Utah. Suzie’s blue radio that she used to give Dustin the code in Stranger Things’ season 3 finale can be visibly seen on the right-hand side by Jonathan’s shoulder. Furthermore, the room is decorated with the same wallpaper from Suzie’s bedroom in season 3 as well as a flag for Brigham Young University, which is located in Suzie’s home state of Utah. To top it off, the room in Stranger Things’ season 4 image is accessorized with posters of the solar system, which makes sense for a teen who just attended science camp. From all of these details, it can be concluded that Stranger Things’ season 4 characters are staring at none other than Suzie in this image.

With Suzie’s presence in Stranger Things season 4 secretly confirmed, the image then begs the question of the circumstances of her role in the upcoming conflict. Interestingly, the characters visiting her in Utah are Will, Mike, Jonathan, and Argyle, with her boyfriend Dustin presumably located back in Hawkins as he investigates the haunted Creel House. Mike is back with Will and Jonathan after visiting Eleven in California for Spring Break, but this image seems to take place after Eleven has her run-in with the government depicted in Stranger Things’ season 4 trailer. Since the same trailer saw Mike, Jonathan, Will, and Argyle in the pizza van driving away from mysterious figures – presumably the government – in the desert, it seems Stranger Things’ teens take a detour on their way back to Hawkins to meet with Suzie in Utah.

It’s unclear whether Suzie’s return in Stranger Things season 4 means she and Dustin are still dating, but it hints that the Byers group will need her assistance in another scientific matter. In any case, the teens’ pit-stop in Utah suggests Stranger Things season 4 will feature a significant road trip in the pizza van as the characters evade the authorities. With Suzie likely helping Stranger Things’ characters save the world yet again, perhaps viewers will finally see her come along to Hawkins in order to reunite with Dustin.
