The Prawn Suit is the only vehicle to make a return from the first game in Subnautica: Below Zero, and it’s a good thing too. This powered-up diving suit allows the player to travel to incredible depths, 400 meters in Below Zero, and explore otherwise unreachable locales.

However, players don’t start with access to the suit and must find the blueprint for the vehicle by scanning several fragments from across the game world. These locations aren’t immediately apparent. If they don’t know where to look, a player could be lost for hours in this amazing game before discovering this marvel of undersea technology.

How to Build the Prawn Suit in Subnautica: Below Zero

There are four fragments needed to unlock the blueprint, and here’s where to look for them.

Phi Excavation Site

Located beneath a mountain in the Glacial Basin, this research site was intended to shed light on the mystery of the Frozen Leviathan. The crumbling structure of the cave system has a wall of ice in the back with the remains of the giant creature. Players should thoroughly search around the Alterra facility until they find the remains of several Prawn Suits. Scanning one will grant part of the information needed for the vehicle’s blueprint.

Koppa Mining Site

Head to Delta Island to find this site. Players can get inside the facility by traveling through the Thermal Spires located on the western side. There are other entrances as well, though the thermal vent entrance is the easiest to find. This mine is quite deep, so players will need some upgrades before heading here. However, all four fragments for the suit can be obtained at this location, as well as the blueprint for a drill arm.

This crashed spacecraft is also a source of Prawn Suit fragments, but a Laser Cutter is needed to explore most of the area. Once inside, players should head to the wreck of the bow and into the P.R.A.W.N. Bay. There are several suits inside that are scannable.

Outpost Zero

Another abandoned Alterra facility holds more fragments to collect. This is a frigid facility with several large rooms, but players are actually looking for the exterior Prawn Suit service station. Heading to this location will allow players to scan for several fragments.

After visiting these various unique places across Subnautica: Below Zero and gathering enough fragments, players need to head back to their Mobile Vehicle Bay, or deploy it if they have space in their inventory. With their newly acquired Prawn Suit blueprint, they’ll need one of each of the following:

  • Computer Chip
  • Enameled Glass
  • Plasteel Ingot
  • Power Cell

Tossing those materials into the Mobile Vehicle Bay will set the device into action, and before long, players will have their own shiny Prawn Suit, ready to dive to unheard of depths! It’s great to see the vehicle return in Subnautica: Below Zero and hopefully more features of the original game will see their return before long!

Subnautica: Below Zero is available on PC, MacOS, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
