A bootleg Nintendo game released on Android devices has been making waves across the internet for a number of reasons. Super Fighter Mhas a ridiculous roster of playable characters that each has its own set of poorly voiced lines. The knock-off voice clips for Mario, Luigi, and every other license character on the roster are partially responsible for Super Fighter M’s rise to fame, but the roster itself is better than Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s.

Super Fighter M was released late in 2020 for Android devices but was taken off of the Play Store in January 2021. This was due to the number of licensed characters and music the game uses without having an agreement with their parent companies. The largest number of assets used are from Nintendo, more specifically the Super Mario franchise, but there are various characters on the roster from other major publishers. Super Fighter M is just like any other Gacha action RPG found on the Google Play Store, but it replaces generic anime characters with popular video game icons.

While Super Fighter M’s roster is made up of illegally sourced characters, it’s still an impressive feat to make all of them playable. Not only are there a number of overlapping characters between both Super Fighter M and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but the former also introduces a plethora of fan-favorite characters that likely won’t make it into Smash Ultimate. Here’s why Super Fighter M’s roster is better than Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s.

Why Smash’s Roster Is Worse Than Super Fighter M’s

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has a massive roster of over 80 playable characters spanning some of gaming’s most beloved franchises. However, it lacks the charm that can be found in a roster like Super Fighter M’s. Smash fans often complain that there are too many sword fighters or too much representation for a lesser-known franchise. While Super Fighter M does tend to favor the Super Mario series, its roster’s diversity tops that of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It also expands upon franchises that have minimal representation in Super Smash Bros. Characters like Dr. Eggman from the Sonic series, Zero from Mega Man, and Waluigi are playable in Super Fighter M, which fulfills a lot of Smash fans’ most requested characters.

Aside from having fan favorites like Darkrai and Toad, there are a lot of oddball characters that pad out the roster. While most of these choices seem to come from left field, they would be welcome additions to the Super Smash Bros fighter lineup. Ubisoft’s Rabbid characters and the bunny trio from Super Mario Odyssey fit into this category of no-brainer characters that should be in Smash. There are also a lot of characters that are similar to Piranha Plant that is a little more ludicrous, but being able to play as them makes the game all the better. Including Super Mario’s Brolder Boss, Goomba, Cheep Cheep, and Chain Chomp is a level of novelty rarely found in Super Smash Bros.

In short, Super Smash Bros.’s roster is predictable and somewhat expected, while Super Fighter M’s has characters Smash fans have only dreamed of playing, and even more characters that didn’t seem like a possibility until now. The past few characters to be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have been safe additions players have been requesting for years. It’s time for Nintendo to learn a thing or two from Super Fighter M and add a few characters that push the limits of what players think is possible.
