There are several hidden stars within the castle walls of Super Mario 64. This guide will help players locate them all. Super Mario 64 is regarded as one of the most important and best games to ever release. The first time Mario ever stepped into the third dimension was a big hit not only for Nintendo but for the gaming industry itself. In Super Mario 64, Princess Peach invites Mario over for a cake but Mario soon comes to realize that the princess has been kidnapped by Bowser (again). It is now up to Mario to collect the power stars hidden around the castle to save the princess and stop Bowser once and for all. Here are the locations of all the hidden power stars in Super Mario 64.

While searching for the power stars, a majority of them will be found within painting throughout the castle. These paintings include vast levels with their own mission structures. With nothing more than a small prompt, the player will need to find the power star within that level. Although, there are a few power stars that can only be found outside of the levels. Here are all the locations of the castle’s secret stars in Super Mario 64. 

All Secret Star Locations in Super Mario 64

There are 15 hidden stars throughout the castle for players to find. Here are their exact locations.

  • The Secret Aquarium: In the same room with the Jolly Roger Bay Painting, there’s a small black hole that will lead Mario to an underwater location. Collect all 8 red coins to get the star.
  • Princess Secret Slide: Up the stairs and to the right of the main entrance. Players can enter the window on the right to a secret slide. The first star will be at the bottom of the slide.
  • Princess Secret Slide Race: The same location as the previous, the player just needs to reach the bottom before 21 seconds for another star to spawn.
  • Bowser In The Dark World: Collect all 8 coins in this level.
  • Tower of the Wing Cap: Look up to the main entrance to enter a level where Mario is flying. Collect all 8 coins in this level.
  • A gift from Toad #1: Speak with Toad outside of Hazy Maze Cave.
  • A gift from Toad #2: Under the stairs on the second floor.
  • A gift from Toad #3: Right next to the entrance to Tick Tock Clock.
  • Mips: Found in the basement after collecting 15 power stars.
  • Mips 2: Found in the same location after collecting 50 power stars.
  • Vanish Cap Under The Moat: Drain the water to the moat in the basement. Collect all 8 coins in this level.
  • Cavern of The Metal Cap: Located in Hazy Maze Cave behind the lake to a secret location. Collect all 8 coins in this level.
  • Bowser In The Fire Sea: Collect all 8 coins in this level.
  • Wing Mario Over The Rainbow: To the left of the Tick Tock Clock entrance. Collect all 8 coins in this level.
  • Bowser in The Sky: Collect all 8 coins in this level.

Super Mario 64 laid down the groundwork of what a successful 3D platformer should be. The controls are tight, the level design is pleasant, and Mario has never had more character. Super Mario 3D All-Stars, a collection of some of Mario’s biggest 3D adventures will only be available for a limited time. Make sure to grab it before it disappears forever at the end of March 2021.
