Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a fighting crossover game with an eclectic mix of archetypes. There are balanced characters, zoners, glass cannons, and several others, and it’s this kind of variety that makes Smash what it is today.

One attribute that determines how good a character is its weight. Heavier characters suffer less knockback, and the same can’t be said for the lighter ones. These are some of the lightest characters on the Ultimate roster, taking a look at their pros and cons.

11 Kirby (79)

Given how floaty he is, it’s no surprise to see Nintendo’s Kirby ranked among the lightest characters. His floaty nature is perhaps his most significant feature, aided by his slow airspeed, fast-falling speed, and gravity. But approaching foes isn’t Kirby’s strongest suit, unfortunately.

In fact, Kirby’s inability to approach is his biggest weakness, and mobile fighters and those who can camp with projectiles can effectively wall out this pink puffball. Kirby also has low survivability thanks to his weight, which is a common problem that most other lightweight fighters will run into.

10 Pikachu (79)

Along with Kirby, Pikachu is tied with four other fighters for being the seventh-lightest character in the game. He’s very mobile, and his fast mobility aids him in his neutral game and approach options.

Mobility aside, Pikachu has a few other positives that make him one of the best fighters in Ultimate, if not the best. He has quick frame data for many of his moves, and his edgeguarding game is among the best. Not only that, but his aerials are fast and can be autocanceled at any time.

9 Olimar (79)

Olimar is short and floaty, with most of his attacks being disjointed. His jab and tilts are the only moves of his that come from his body, and they’re small and weak – mainly in reference to how captains from the Pikmin series seldom attack enemies head-on.

It should be noted that Olimar’s most powerful attacks don’t come from him but rather his Pikmin, who make up a huge bulk of his moveset. If it weren’t for his Pikmin always at his side, one would have to wonder how worse off Olimar would be, especially given his lightweight status.

8 Sephiroth (79)

With a weight value of 79, Sephiroth is the lightest swordfighter in the game. He’s also arguably the tallest, which sadly works against his favor as it makes him frail and open to a variety of attacks. His fast-falling speed only compounds the issue further.

When taking into consideration Sephiroth’s other attributes and secrets, this one-winged angel is quite polarizing. Despite his small weight, he has an incredible range, some strong projectiles, and a comeback mechanic in his Winged form. These traits are enough for some to consider Sephiroth high-tier, despite his weaknesses.

7 Mewtwo (79)

For a lightweight fighter, Mewtwo comes with a lot of powerful moves, along with some great mobility. He has a very good range for someone in his weight class, with smash attacks that have disjointed hitboxes which can beat out any other move.

Mewtwo is one of the taller lightweights, and as such, he can be easy to combo. He is a glass cannon in every sense of the word – able to dish out strong attacks, while also being pretty vulnerable. Those who choose to play Mewtwo would be wise to play him as a zoner.

6 Sheik (78)

Although it might be hard to believe, Sheik weighs less than characters such as Kirby and Pikachu (but not by that much). She is pretty frail and is prone to be KO’d by a remotely strong move. She can also be easy to combo, thanks to her above-average height and high falling speed.

With rage being weakened in Ultimate, Sheik has higher survivability and is more consistent with landing combos. But weighing less compared to Super Smash Bros 4 offsets these perks, while making her noticeable lack of KO power even more prevalent.

5 Fox (77)

Fox is known to be among the fastest fighters in Smash, but he also happens to be one of the lightest. He fights with a hit-and-run approach, using his fast sped and lightweight to get out of his opponent’s range while keeping a safe distance.

Whereas other characters in the lightweight class are pretty small, Fox is taller compared to his peers. This, however, gives him a low endurance, which along with his recovery, is one of the biggest weaknesses that he has in his arsenal.

4 Mr. Game And Watch (75)

Mr. Game and Watch is unlike most other lightweights. His attacks are long-lasting and come with disjointed hitboxes, granting this 2D character a plethora of KO options. His airspeed and acceleration are both very fast, although he does have a strong tendency to jump very high.

Two of his strongest moves – Judge and Oil Panic – work a lot in his favor due to his lightweight status. Along with his floatiness, Mr. Game and Watch can KO opponents both horizontally and vertically at just about any percentage.

3 Squirtle (75)

Squirtle is the only Pokémon owned by the Pokémon Trainer to not have evolved, so he’s quite small. There are some ways that his small weight works against him in battle, however.

Squirtle’s recovery, Waterfall, isn’t necessarily the best recovery around, which combined with his weight lowers his endurance. This lack of endurance makes this tiny turtle Pokémon more likely to be meteor smashed, especially with meteor canceling removed. With type effectiveness removed from Ultimate, Squirtle’s weight becomes more of an issue when it comes to resisting fire attacks.

2 Jigglypuff (68)

Jigglypuff is classified as the balloon Pokémon, so naturally, she can float around just like Kirby. So it’s safe to say that she’s one of the more mobile characters in the air. Her aerial mobility and moveset certainly make up for her shortcomings as far as ground movement is concerned.

In addition to being the second-lightest character, Jigglypuff is also considerably low in jump force, walking speed, dash speed. While these traits make it easy for Jigglypuff to be KO’d, this Pokémon is also pretty hard to combo, thanks to his floatiness.

1 Pichu (62)

With a weight value of 62, Pichu is the lightest character in Ultimate. The developers seem to be well-aware of the fact, as Pichu’s opponents in his Classic Mode consist of other lightweight characters. At one point, he was even considered the “joke” character of Melee due to his low weight.

Sadly, being small and weighing so little doesn’t do this tiny mouse Pokémon any favors. Pichu is very susceptible to KOs, being easily knocked out by a stray hit (provided that it’s strong enough), as his weight really hinders his survivability.
