When Supergirl debuted on CBS, it introduced us to a whole new version of Kara Zor-El. In her regular life Kara Danvers works at CatCo, where she started out as CEO Cat Grant’s assistant. Though she spends most of her time making their lives miserable, Cat genuinely cares about those who work for her.

The more we get to know Cat, the more we realize she is a fountain of experience and real world advice. Nearly everything she says is memorable, important, and often hilarious. In season two she became a recurring guest star, meaning we lost out on weekly Cat Grant wisdom, so here’s a refresher with Cat Grant’s 10 best quotes from Supergirl.

10 “TOYMAN JR. YOU’RE THE COMPUTER GENIUS, FIX THIS.”

Winn spent his life worried that when people found out his father was the infamous Toyman, they would treat him differently. Obviously, his friends didn’t hesitate to support him. The revelation did lead to some rather interesting encounters though.

If there’s one person in his life he didn’t need to worry about, it was Ms. Grant. She doesn’t care who his parents are, as long as he can fix her problems. It’s a weirdly refreshing moment for him. Although we can never prove it, we think this was her way of putting him at ease.

9 “THE ONLY REASON I BOUGHT THIS BUILDING WAS BECAUSE IT HAS A PRIVATE ELEVATOR. THAT WAY I DON’T HAVE TO GET SOAKED IN CHEAP COLOGNE EVERY MORNING GETTING TO MY OFFICE. FIND OUT WHO USED IT, HAVE THEM REPRIMANDED OR BATHED. I DON’T CARE WHICH.”

With this one line we are introduced to the force of nature that is Cat Grant. We instantly know what kind of boss and woman she is. In case fans were wondering what Calista Flockhart would do to make the unbearable boss role her own, we get the sharp wit and funny self awareness that becomes her signature right from the start.

It’s a brilliant way to immediately let viewers know this isn’t going to be like other Superman series. It showcases how this world is populated by strong female characters, and they’re all different and special in their own way.

8 “IN THE LAST HOUR ALONE, THE DAILY PLANET HAS PUBLISHED MY REAL AGE, THE FACT THAT I HAVE THREE PERSONAL SHOPPERS ON CALL AT BARNEY’S AND THAT I ASKED IDRIS ELBA OUT ON A DATE AND HE SAID NO. HIS LOSS.”

When faced with the fact that her email has been hacked and all her personal data is out there, Cat must deal with having all her most closely guarded secrets out in the open. Though most of us would be worried about account information or family history being discovered by the world, Cat has other concerns.

Honestly, these secrets aren’t that shocking. She looks amazing, three personal shoppers isn’t that bad and what woman wouldn’t shoot her shot with Idris Elba? In fact, we’re wondering why he would say no to Cat Grant.

7 “WELL, LIKE TAXES, AGING AND PARTICIPATING IN MARTHA STEWART’S ANNUAL SECRET SANTA, THIS IS JUST SOMETHING I HAVE TO DO.”

After her deepest secrets are revealed by an email hacker, Cat must face the rest of the board. As much as she’d like to put it off, it’s inevitable, which apparently Martha Stewart’s secret santa also is.

No one name drops like Cat Grant. Yes, she knows a lot of famous people, but when she talks about them, it’s always in the most unexpected circumstances. She never just runs into someone at a party, it’s usually someplace completely out of the ordinary and hilarious.

6 “AW LESLIE, YOU AND I GOT THROUGH YOU NOT SUPPORTING HILLARY IN 2008, WE CAN GET THROUGH THIS.”

To say Ms. Grant is a difficult boss is an understatement. Shock jock Leslie Willis takes out her frustration with Cat on the radio by making her the target of her show. Once she is struck by lightning during a helicopter crash, her revenge gets more dangerous.

When she attacks her former boss, Cat tries to reason with her by reminding Livewire of their political differences. Of course, politics isn’t usually the best way to diffuse an argument, and Livewire has no plans to quit her vendetta, until Supergirl gets involved.

5 “I DIDN’T GET WHERE I AM BY RUNNING AND HIDING FROM A FIGHT.”

Livewire has it in for Cat, so when she teams up with Silver Banshee, CatCo is her first stop. When news of Leslie’s escape breaks, Kara begs Ms. Grant to protect herself by hiding out from her. Cat Grant is a lot of things, but a coward is not one of them.

Even when Livewire and Banshee show up at her office, Cat is outwardly brave, mocking her former employees. It is only when things get dire that she begs for her life for the sake of her sons. Losing them is the only thing she’s truly scared of.

4 “THE FLASH SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE WHOSE ONLY SUPERPOWER IS JUMPING OUT OF AN ALLEY IN A TRENCH COAT.”

In the season one episode “World’s Finest” Barry Allen lands in National City and Supergirl officially joins the Arrowverse. He immediately makes his presence felt by saving Kara. Cat is intrigued by this new hero, but unimpressed by his name.

Barry’s reaction at having his name broken down by Cat is great. He’s never considered that particular side of being called The Flash before. It emphasizes how different Earth-38 is to him, and instantly lets him know he’s not the biggest deal in town anymore.

3 “YOU CANNOT GET ANGRY AT WORK, ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE A GIRL. IF I HAD THROWN A CHAIR OR A NAPKIN, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN UNPROFESSIONAL AND CAREER SUICIDE.”

While it may seem like Cat isn’t interested in Kara’s life (and she really isn’t most of the time), she does recognize her potential. She wants to make sure Kara avoids some of the mistakes she made on her way to the top.

Something every woman figures out pretty quickly is that they aren’t allowed to show certain emotions in the workplace. Though she would have been justified in her reaction, Cat sums up perfectly that the rules for women are different. Something Supergirl needs to remember just as much as Kara.

2 “KIRA, CALL HARRISON FORD AND TELL HIM THAT I’M FLATTERED, BUT ONCE AND FOR ALL, I DO NOT DATE OLDER MEN. ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY’RE MARRIED.”

Of all her famous name drops, this may have been the best. A fed up Cat lets Kara know that she doesn’t have time for married men. Even if they’re Han Solo and Indiana Jones.

Of course, this is made hilarious by the fact that Calista Flockhart is actually married to Harrison Ford. We wondered if he would be one of the many names Cat loves throwing around, and if so how they would work it in. This was even funnier than we imagined, and stands as one of Cat’s best moments.

1 “YOU LOOK LIKE THE ATTRACTIVE YET NON-THREATENING, RICHLY DIVERSE CAST OF A CW SHOW.”

Barry Allen’s appearance in National City led to some great moments, including Winn wondering about all the different Earths. James’ obvious jealousy and the beginning of Barry and Kara’s friendship.

However, none was better than his first meeting with Cat Grant. As Winn, Barry, Kara and James stood in her office, she had no qualms telling them what they reminded her of. Considering The Flash’s place on The CW and Supergirl’s move there in season two, once again Cat is spot on.
