The entire main cast of Supergirl season 6 has been reimagined into anime characters in new poster art designed by one of the show’s stars. First airing in 2015, the show will shortly draw to a definitive conclusion with its final thirteen episodes set for release weekly over the coming months. Earlier this year, Supergirl season 6, part 1 saw its mid-season finale premiere, prior to going on hiatus for a few months due to the effects of coronavirus, coupled with star Melissa Benoist’s pregnancy. Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for season 6, part 2, as to finally get a resolution to the burning questions they’ve been asking.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Originally airing on CBS, before moving to The CW, Supergirl takes place within The Arrowverse, following the story of Kara Danvers, Superman’s biological cousin, as she embarks on her own superhero adventures. After Supergirl managed to escape the Phantom Zone, along with Zor-El (Jason Behr), at the end of Supergirl season 6, episode 7, “Fear Knot,” the second half of the season will kick off as the heroes make their way back to National City. Determined to forget about the Phantom Zone and the experiences she went through, Benoist reprises her role as Supergirl, alongside series regulars Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers/Sentinel, Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor and Jesse Rath as Querl Dox/Brainiac 5.

Season 6, part 2 also sees Nicole Maines reprise her role as Nia Nal/Dreamer, who has recently shown that she has many more hidden talents alongside her acting abilities. Shared via Nicole Maines’ Twitter account, the actor revealed her stunning, anime styled reimagining of the season 6 cast of Supergirl, which she had originally designed for the show’s cast and crew wrap T-shirts. Check out the design below:

Focusing on the show’s main cast, Maines has reimagined Supergirl‘s core characters into stylistic anime interpretations, including Supergirl, Sentinel, Dreamer and Braniac 5, to name a few, along with their signature abilities and powers on display. Supergirl sits central on the poster, displaying her iconic power of flight, while Dreamer is shown using her Oneiric energy manipulation. Kelly Olsen (Azie Tesfai), who takes over the mantle of Guardian this season, wields the Guardian shield, as Sentinel makes use of her Hand of the soldier to generate a whip. With its bold coloring and eye catching designs, these character designs certainly wouldn’t seem out of place among other popular superhero animes, including My Hero Academia and One Punch Man.

As Supergirl is set to conclude this season, many fans are certain to be wondering if the world and characters they have come to know and love over the past six seasons could continue in any way. In recent years, with the rising trend in companies wanting to break into the anime market, as well as the generally favorable reception of DC’s animated movies and TV shows, e.g. Harley Quinn, now seems like the perfect time for DC to begin making their own anime properties. Aside from experimenting with anime for Batman: Gotham Knight and Batman Ninja, DC has never fully committed to a dedicated anime series based on one of their characters. Consequently, reinventing a show with a strong fan backing into an anime, such as Supergirl, could give DC the kickstart they need to truly make their mark on the anime market.

Supergirl season 6, part 2 premieres August 24 on The CW.
