Warning! Spoilers ahead for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #8!

In Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #8, Kara Zor-El just got a new costume in the series’ final pages. The series began with Supergirl celebrating her twenty-first birthday by getting drunk on an alien planet under a red sun. By the series’ end, she has matured as a hero and is ready to take on the role of Superwoman, with her new costume representing the growth she has undergone throughout her journey.

It turns out that Supergirl and Ruthye’s expansive adventure across the universe is about far more than just hunting down the killer Krem. Every step of their journey teaches them a lesson in morality, but more importantly, their boundaries as people with great power. In the case of Ruthye, she is able to surpass Krem’s idea of her as a weak child by besting him in a fair duel. For Supergirl, Ruthye helps her to realize sparing Krem and putting him away would do more justice than killing him. She has to restrain her desire to unleash all of her power on him. By the final issue, they both have power over Krem, but choose a better path as we are lead to believe they’ve grown to become better people. Well, until the very end.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In the final issue of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, Supergirl sports a new look as the book flashes forward to the future. The series ends decades into the future as Supergirl visits an elderly Ruthye. Here, Supergirl looks completely revitalized and more like the Superwoman she became during the Future State event. She has ditched her iconic skirt and opted for blue pants with red boots. The costume still retains Supergirl’s golden girdle from her previous suit, which along with the blue and red color scheme is about all that remains the same. Additionally, the red cape goes further up her neck than before.

The final change in Supergirl’s appearance is her hair, which is more akin to the character’s hair in the ’60s and ’70s. It’s nice to see Supergirl getting a whole new, revamped look, especially as she’s changed a lot as a person since the start of her journey across space with Ruthye. The two of them reunite with Krem, who has supposedly atoned for his heinous crimes for over three hundred years in the Phantom Zone as Supergirl shows up in her new outfit.

The series ends in a poetic way, with Krem lying cold on a hill just like he left Ruthye’s father, as the sun rises. A new day is ahead for Supergirl who has barely aged a day, but one thing’s clear: she’s become wiser and a better hero. She is the Superwoman of the future, just like in Future State. Supergirl’s costume represents the evolution that the character has gone through. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #8 is available in comic book stores and on digital platforms now.
