Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois season 2, episode 6!

Superman & Lois initially set up Bizarro as the villain of season 2, but the story might go a different route with him and Superman joining forces. The history of Bizarro and his intentions have been quite an enigma on Superman & Lois. Bizarro initially appeared to be out to destroy the Man of Steel, only to reveal his real target as cult leader Ally Alston (Rya Kihlstedt). While trying to make sense of the situation, Superman finds himself imprisoned by General Mitch Anderson (Ian Bohen) and branded a traitor to the United States.

This continues the theme of Superman & Lois season 2 of Kal-El’s universal allegiance to humanity being at odds with the U.S. government’s desires that he work for them. Moreover, it is also the latest unexpected turn in what has been a season delivering them with virtually every episode. As the season finale draws closer into view, Superman & Lois is doing a masterful job of keeping viewers guessing about where it’s headed.

With numerous parallel stories destined to converge as the season nears its end, what it all means for Bizarro is a big question. While Bizarro’s introduction on Superman & Lois used him in a classically villainous manner, his story might end in a radically different place. With how Superman & Lois season 2 seems to be unfolding, Superman and Bizarro might find themselves teaming up against the real villains of the show.

Superman & Lois Season 2 Has Had Constant Twists

In season 2, Superman & Lois has repeatedly pulled the rug out from under the feet of viewers. Some twists have been parts of its sub-plots, such as Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) finally developing Kryptonian powers or Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui) learning of her husband’s infidelity. By far the most unpredictable side of season 2 has been how Superman & Lois has introduced Bizarro. This started off with the reveal that it wasn’t even Bizarro arriving, but Doomsday. When the mask was pulled back to reveal Superman’s doppelganger, the story continued to keep viewers on their toes. This rollercoaster nature indicates that viewers can expect several more dramatic revelations before the end of the season.

Despite his initial confrontations with the Man of Steel, Superman & Lois reveals that Bizarro’s real target is Ally Alston. Bizarro warns that Ally could become an insurmountable enemy if she manages to get hold of both of the mysterious pendants seen in season 2. Flashbacks to Bizarro in his world in episode 6, “Tried and True” show him in a still dark but much less villainous light than he initially debuted with. Meanwhile, Superman not giving up Bizarro’s location to Anderson shows Kal-El as beginning to doubt Bizarro as a true enemy. This ultimately is what leads to Superman’s imprisonment with red UV light to depower him, and could set up another twist in season 2.

Ally Alston & Tal-Rho Could Become A Villainous Duo

While the very comic-accurate Bizarro has begun to appear to be more of an anti-hero than he seemed, Ally Alston has only grown more diabolical. Superman & Lois already established Ally as someone not to be trusted as a cult leader. Ally’s meeting with Lois’ colleague Chrissy Beppo (Sofia Hasmik) and flashbacks to her childhood began to tease more of what kind of threat she poses with the power of the pendant. The vision Ally showed Chrissy with her pendant even revealed the Ally of an alternate world who had become its ruler. With Ally having become far more of an evident villain than Bizarro, her plot and Superman’s imprisonment could also bring Tal-Rho (Adam Rayner) back into play.

After his defeat in season 1, Tal-Rho was placed in his own prison awash in red UV light that Superman is headed for after the Man of Steel is charged with treason. Since Superman surely isn’t going to be imprisoned for long in season 2, his break-out might also provide an opening for Tal-Rho to also escape. That would leave Superman & Lois with two villains determined to conquer the world, and Ally potentially being a powerful opponent herself if she becomes Parasite. If Tal-Rho and Ally were to unite in their common goal of overtaking Earth, Superman would need all the help he could get to stop them. The recovered John Henry Irons would surely lend the Man of Steel support, while his sons Jordan and Jonathan might also leap into action too. This could also lead to a very unexpected final cap on season 2’s story.

Theory: Superman Teams-up With Bizarro In Superman & Lois Season 2

The potential of Ally becoming Parasite would make her a genuine challenge for Superman. Parasite’s ability to drain an enemy of his or her energy is a vulnerability that Superman is also subject to. Meanwhile, Tal-Rho can also match Superman as a Kryptonian himself. With the kind of threat they would pose together, Superman might have to turn to Bizarro as an ally to defeat them.

While Bizarro has frequently been a much more morally grey Superman villain, an actual team-up of the two would be a whole new event for them. With Superman & Lois season 2 being so packed with twists and turns, a Superman-Bizarro team-up could be the perfect pay-off. With John’s gradual transformation into Steel and the development of the powers of Jordan (Alex Garfin) and Jonathan, it could even act in a complementary way to their parallel arcs. As for the fate of Bizarro himself, him teaming up with Superman could reveal the early Doomsday teases as a case of misdirection. If Tal-Rho and Bizarro were to join forces, it could be Bizarro, not Superman, who sacrifices himself in battle against them.

Superman & Lois is definitely building to quite a season 2 finale, but it’s not taking the route to get there that one would expect. Putting Superman himself in the position he’s in against the government, he still has potential threats to mankind to deal with as he makes his escape. A Superman and Bizarro duo is hardly where Superman & Lois season 2 seemed to be headed. Nonetheless, the show’s innate skill at surprising viewers, including with Bizarro’s own origins, makes it look like a near-forgone conclusion.
