Despite being defeated, it looks like Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner) will continue to cause trouble for the Arrowverse in Superman & Lois. In the latest episode of the series, Edge was taken down at last, but the final scene teased that he still has more to do in Smallville.

Though the show still has two episodes left before its first season ends, Superman & Lois just rushed to a dramatic conclusion to its evil Superman story – or at least, that’s how it appeared. After a great deal of build-up, Morgan Edge got what he wanted in episode 11 when he learned Superman’s secret identity and forced the hero to subject himself to the Eradicator. Slowly, Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) found himself being taken over by General Zod, who was apparently the same Kryptonian being who wrecked John Henry Irons’ world in Superman’s body. In the end, Superman resisted Zod’s influence and teamed with Irons to defeat Edge, who was subsequently placed in a Kryptonite-powered cell by the military. In the final scene, Edge could be seen smirking while hearing his father’s voice urge him to complete the task he was sent to Earth for.

Superman & Lois episode 12’s final scene sets up another nefarious scheme from the villain, which plays out sooner rather than later. What this could be isn’t explicitly stated of course, but it’s clearly connected to his last conversation with his father and his decision to destroy the Eradicator with his heat-ray vision. After telling Zeta-Rho (A.C. Peterson) that Zod’s consciousness is gone for good, Edge was ordered to finish his original mission. Zeta-Rho’s remark about Edge being fearful of this mysterious task and the real reluctance that Edge shows at this moment makes it obvious that he’s being asked to do something that he disagrees with.

It’s possible that what Zeta-Rho wanted is for Edge to use the Eradicator on himself, meaning that he, just like his human subjects, would be giving up his free will for the sake of their plan to restore Kryptonian society on Earth. Edge may have avoided making the same sacrifice, but it could be that Superman’s victory forced him to take this desperate measure anyway.

The brief flash in Edge’s eyes suggests that the villain did indeed change in one way or another when he blasted the Eradicator, but exactly what happened to him is unclear. Regardless, there’s a strong chance that going forward, he won’t be the same Morgan Edge that fought Clark and Irons in Superman & Lois episode 12. Instead, he could be Zeta-Rho reborn or the Eradicator itself brought to life. In DC Comics, the Eradicator is an advanced AI designed to preserve Kryptonian culture. Among the ways that it’s attempted to achieve these goals is through converting Superman into a true Kryptonian soldier, and also by creating a Superman-esque android which it could control directly. So far, the Arrowverse’s Eradicator is a far cry from its comic book counterpart since it’s not a sentient being or even an AI, but Superman & Lois’ newest twist could transform it into an actual villain.
