DC’s long-awaited Doomsday Clock series finale is arriving soon. Writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank’s intricate series blended the Watchmen and DC Universe. The final issue is going to be a doozy, as the official preview shows two of the biggest superpowered characters in comics facing off against each other.

In Doomsday Clock, it was revealed Doctor Manhattan came to the DC Universe for a purpose he hasn’t (and may never) revealed. However, he has now realized that after altering the timeline in whatever ways he sees fit, he can no longer see a future for DC’s Universe. Apparently even he’s not quite sure how to master the reality of DC’s massive metaverse, which impacts all other multiverses. all he knows is someone is making Superman’s arrival on Earth continually shift forward in time, making him the key. So when the two finally meet for the first time, something big is going to happen next.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In the preview images courtesy of CBR, Superman and Doctor Manhattan come face to face amidst destruction. We can see an angry Superman lunge towards a tranquil Doctor Manhattan. Superman is ready to rumble. Meanwhile, Batman encounters Rorschach and is seen jumping off a building into a crowd. Nice to know even the Dark Knight will get to have some fun as these demigods face off.

There are overarching questions about how the finale of Doomsday Clock will affect the DC Universe and whether the events will end up mattering at all. It’s a fair question. Johns and Frank have been meticulous in telling this ambitious crossover series. Having Dr. Manhattan causing DC’s Rebirth was a smart bit of storytelling. Will he be the end of it as well?

The final issue will answer the question of whether all the delays were worth the wait. But, at the very least, it looks like the battle between Superman and Doctor Manhattan is going to be epic.
