Superman’s family from Future State: House of El is set to return sometime in the near future. Clark Kent’s future descendants were introduced in DC’s line-wide event Future State, where they got appeared in a one-shot. Fans were very interested in this expanded version of the House of El, reminding many people of Game of Thrones‘ families. More than that, they are no ordinary family, they are a team of superheroes who fight to protect the House of El and everything that surrounds them.

Earlier this week, the future House of El returned in DC’s Action Comics 2021 Annual #1. The issue sees a narrator from Warworld telling a future story about the House of El. However, this time, Supergirl is included in the mix as she takes on a leadership role in the family. The way that the issue is structured seems to suggest that Superman’s descendants fighting against the Man of Steel’s evil son, Pyrrhos, happened before the events of their story in Future State. Naturally, the next question to ask is when will DC bring back these characters once again?

Action Comics and Superman Writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson put out a tweet regarding the new annual, which reads “love these characters, love that we get to see more of them going forward.” Kennedy Johnson’s statement implies that more stories with Superman’s future family are coming. “Going forward” is definitely not a reference to the Action Comics 2021 Annual as it’s been already released, thus, it looks like the House of El haven’t seen their last days. Also, Gabe Eltaeb, one of the issue’s artists, replied to a fan under Kennedy Johnson’s tweet stating “Tell @DCComics you need a miniseries with @scottygod and me on art!” It’s clear that everyone involved wants to do more and it’s not just the fans.

Kennedy Johnson’s comments about seeing more of the House of El line up with what happened at the end of Action Comics 2021 Annual #1. The narrator is asked by Thao-La, the past version of Superman’s new supposed ally, about Supergirl’s future and what happened to her. The way it’s worded implies that Superman will reunite in the future with Supergirl and the House of El. Teasing that their story is for another day, clearly suggesting that there is at one more book on its way.

With Phillip Kennedy Johnson teasing more future House of El stories and the way that Action Comics 2021 Annual #1 ended, it’s more than obvious that DC Comics has further plans for their Game of Thrones-style family. Whether it’ll be a miniseries like artist Gabe Eltaeb suggested or not, it’ll be exciting to see the House of El face off against someone new, now that Superman‘s evil son Pyrrhos has been defeated, for now. Action Comics 2021 Annual #1 is available in comic book stores and on digital platforms now.
