It seemed like NBC’s knack for producing the funniest sitcoms on TV had hit the skids, but that all changed once Superstore hit the scene. Superstore is about to begin its fifth season at the end of September, and this gem of a show has been a guaranteed half-hour of pure entertainment every week since it first premiered.

IMDb has always been the internet’s source for every tidbit of info and feedback anyone could ever hope to find about films and television, and their ratings are a great measure of quality. Superstore‘s IMDb ratings are actually pretty sky-high (seriously, even its lowest-rated episodes are higher than half of the TV shows and movies on the site), but there are clearly some episodes that are the cream of the crop while others are pretty forgettable. So here are Superstore‘s 5 highest and lowest-rated episodes on IMDb.

10 Video Game Release: 7.5

More people can relate to the desperation that comes along with the release of a new video game than they’d like to admit, but this relatable subject in this particular episode of Superstore didn’t seem to resonate very well with Superstore viewers.

It’s possible that the audience just didn’t respond to the combined subplots of a store invasion by badly stereotyped gamers, along with a weird breastfeeding protest triggered by an overzealous Glenn and Sandra. Furthermore, the main characters of the series spend most of this episode separated from each other, which has a noticeable effect on how funny and engaging this particular episode is.

9 Sal’s Dead: 8.5

A sitcom episode that cold opens with the discovery of an employee’s dead body in the walls of their workplace doesn’t seem like a barrel of laughs, but Superstore manages to make creepy Sal’s death episode hilarious.

Luckily no one was too sad to see Sal go, including everyone in the store who knew him, and the episode’s subplots are all top-notch. It just so happens to be Halloween while they’re trying to exhume Sal’s body from the wall, which makes for an easy cover with shoppers (because of course the store wouldn’t be closed after the discovery of a dead and rotting body inside of it).

8 Golden Globes Party: 7.5

The episode of Superstore that focuses on Dina’s annual Golden Globes party is probably one of the lowest-rated episodes of the show for a few reasons. First off, Superstore is usually at it’s funniest and most exciting when the episode takes place within the actual store.

But secondly, this episode seemed like a pretty blatant commercial for the Golden Globes. It’s easy to see why NBC would want to get as much cross-promotion as possible, but the episode comes off like the network heads just told the writers to come up with an episode about the Golden Globes, and the writers just tried their best.

7 Black Friday: 8.7

Black Friday has become a cultural touchstone in the United States, and whether or not anyone loves it or hates it, it’s something that everyone collectively has to deal with on every post-Thanksgiving Friday of the year.

Aside from the traditional tramplings and customers physically fighting over who can get the best deals, the employees of Cloud 9 have some extra special circumstances that they get to deal with. After having a pre-sale potluck, the entire crew gets food poisoning, and those who are still standing have to cope with the mobs of deranged customers while rotating in and out of the bathrooms every five minutes.

6 Delivery Day: 7.5

Apparently Superstore fans are not fans of episodes that focus on health care matters. It seems as if episodes that take place outside of the store tend to be less thrilling to audience members in general, but it’s possible that that Superstore viewer base is made up of a bunch of baby haters.

What looks like the most probable scenario though is that there is an incredibly depressing contrast between Dina spending her labor flirting with the handsome doctor while Amy bounces back and forth between the hospital she can afford and a hospital where she isn’t sharing a room with a corpse wasn’t as funny so much as a scary dose of reality.

5 Cheyenne’s Wedding: 8.8

Apparently, when Superstore goes high it really goes high, as this episode and the episode that follows it are both on the list of Superstore‘s highest-rated episodes.

Any person with two brain cells to rub together knows that Cheyenne and Bo probably shouldn’t be getting married, but that doesn’t mean that their wedding episode wasn’t hilarious. And if there is one thing that can be said about Bo and Chey, is that they absolutely know how to turn up. Bo’s bright gold tux and the happy couple’s rap at the altar are exactly what everyone would have wanted and expected from this wedding episode.

4 Health Fund: 7.4

It’s interesting that one of Superstore‘s worst episodes aired back to back to one of its bests (this one came right after one of the highest-rated episodes on this list, “Sal’s Dead”), but apparently “Health Fund” just didn’t tickle the audience’s fancy.

It’s possible that this episode just didn’t have the high-quality jokes that Superstore is known for, but it’s also possible that the storyline just hit too close from home for a lot of people. The drama of minimum wage employees desperately needing health insurance and not having it is probably a little too relatable for people who are looking for a half an hour escape from real life.

3 Tornado: 8.9

Season finales seem to be a strong point for Superstore, since two out of four of those episodes are some of their highest rated on IMDb.

This episode unsurprisingly focuses on a tornado hitting the Cloud 9 store as well as the imminent downsizing that every employee is trying to avoid becoming the victim of. And after an entire episode along with the entire first two seasons of Amy and Jonah trying to resist the undeniable chemistry between them, they finally share their first smooch when it looks like the tornado is about to destroy the store. In the end, the store is barely standing but everyone is okay.

2 Local Vendors Day: 7.4

Glenn and Jerusha Sturgis are two of the cutest and sweetest characters on Superstore, but this particular episode was awkward for them and all of the other characters on the show.

When the local businesses set up pop-up shops inside of Cloud 9, it looks like Jerusha’s needlepoint sales are doing miserably. So Glenn encourages the employees to buy Jerusha’s stuff, then the employees admit that they feel uncomfortable about him pressuring them to buy, then Glenn feels really bad, and then Glenn gets so upset at seeing Jerusha’s failure that he demands that all of the employees go out and buy everything she’s got.

1 Employee Appreciation Day: 8.9

Superstore is probably the funniest NBC sitcom since The Office, and the show always manages to feel super culturally relevant while being hilarious and relatable at the same time. But it would seem that Superstore is at it’s best when it’s blending together its comedy, its heartfelt relationships between the characters, and its sharp eye for political and cultural issues.

The episode starts with Amy and Jonah trying to pull the employees in opposite directions (Amy towards following corporate rules and Jonah towards unionizing), but once Mateo’s immigration issues come to a head, everyone bands together in their attempts to protect him.
