The Microsoft Surface Pro 8 delivers an impressive array of upgraded specs and features, but as the story often goes, all of those things come at a steep cost. Microsoft’s journey with the Surface family has been fascinating to watch over the years. The company started with the Microsoft Surface back in 2012, offering a unique 2-in-1 form factor that hadn’t really been seen before. Today, the Surface brand is used for unique 2-in-1s, traditional laptops, smartphones, headphones, and more.

One of the latest entries in that product lineup is the Surface Pro 8. Unveiled on September 22, 2021, the Microsoft Surface Pro 8 is a noteworthy successor to the Surface Pro 7 that launched in 2019. It has a larger screen with slimmer bezels, a 120Hz refresh rate, faster processors, new ports, and more. It’s one of the most substantial upgrades the Surface Pro has ever seen, and as expected, that has a lot of people excited.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

For anyone itching to get their hands on the Surface Pro 8, here’s the good news. Pre-orders are open right now for all available models. The official release date is October 5, and when buying from Microsoft’s online store, all orders come with free 2-3 day shipping. If someone wants to be among the first to get the Surface Pro 8, they can place that order right now and secure a spot in line.

Microsoft Surface Pro 8 Pricing Explained

Before placing that order, however, it’s important to take a look at how much the Surface Pro 8 costs. In short, it’s not cheap. The baseline model retails for $1,099 and includes an Intel Core i5 chip, 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD. Doubling the internal storage to 256GB increases the price to $1,199, and if someone wants a 256GB SSD with 16GB of RAM, they’ll pay $1,399. For users who value storage over memory, another option is to pay the same $1,399 for a model with 8GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD.

As powerful as the 11th Gen Intel Core i5 is, there are some folks who just need more horsepower than what it’s capable of. For them, they’ll want to consider a Surface Pro 8 with the Intel Core i7. The cheapest Surface Pro 8 with a Core i7 costs $1,599 — including 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. To double the storage to 512GB while retaining the same 16GB of RAM, be prepared to spend $1,899. If that’s still not enough room for all your digital files, Microsoft sells an i7 Surface Pro 8 with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD for $2,199. And, finally, there’s the completely maxed-out configuration. Microsoft sells a Surface Pro 8 with an Intel Core i7, 1TB SSD, and 32GB of RAM for the cool price of $2,599.

Here are some final things to keep in mind before picking up the Surface Pro 8. There are two colors to choose from: a silver-ish Platinum and Graphite (aka black). Platinum is available for every configuration, whereas Graphite is not available for the $1099, $2199, $2599 models. Furthermore, the Surface Pro 8 comes with just the device itself and nothing more. The keyboard cover is available for an extra $179, a keyboard cover with a built-in fingerprint sensor costs $199, and the keyboard cover with the new Slim Pen 2 stylus is available for $279. The keyboard is an essential component of the Surface Pro experience, so be prepared to add at least an extra $179 to whichever model you choose.
