Swamp Thing actor Crystal Reed reveals she’d be interesting in crossing over to the Arrowverse as Abby Arcane. As one of DC Universe’s shows, Swamp Thing premiered last year and was an exciting addition to the streamer’s lineup. However, the series was cancelled soon after its premiere and aired only 10 episodes. Reed played the doctor investigating a swamp-borne virus, leading her to “Swamp Thing.” Though not enough watched the show on DC Universe, it will have another chance to gain an audience this month. The CW acquired the broadcast rights to Swamp Thing and will air it beginning October 6.

However, Swamp Thing himself has appeared on the network before. During last season’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, DC confirmed several shows and movies are canon within the Arrowverse, including Swamp Thing. The title character appeared briefly during a montage placing him on Earth-19. It’s likely Crisis on Infinite Earths utilized existing footage from the show. Still, the inclusion of Swamp Thing in the crossover, however briefly, was a nice treat for fans.

Speaking with CBR, Reed discussed the possibility of a more substantial appearance by a Swamp Thing character, specifically Abby:

I think it would be fun. I don’t know how she’d fit in and what storylines they would put her with, but I think it could be really interesting. That’s something I’m open to.

The actor also spoke about her interest in coming back if Swamp Thing received a season 2 at some point, saying she “would return to the role in a heartbeat.

I loved my crew and my cast and our creative team. There would be absolutely no hesitation on my part…My dream is Alan Moore’s full run of Swamp Thing — like if it was just verbatim, that would be my dream, because I think that is a nearly perfect comic series run. I think it’s so beautiful and wonderful and heartfelt and gory and interesting. I also really wanted white hair, which I didn’t get.

Considering the amount of time since Swamp Thing season 1, an appearance by Reed in the Arrowverse seems unlikely. However, DC has also been known to surprise viewers, such as with the inclusion of Ezra Miller’s movie Flash in Crisis. It’s also worth noting many could discover Swamp Thing when it airs on The CW, possibly renewing interest in the series. It helps all of the Arrowverse shows have been held for 2021, leaving viewers missing those with a solid option in Swamp Thing.

Of course, as Reed notes, it’s hard to say for sure how her character would fit into the Arrowverse, especially since Abby didn’t appear in Crisis on Infinite Earths. However, Legends of Tomorrow is the most logical show. In fact, the series confirmed Swamp Thing’s existence in a 2018 episode, over a year before the Arrowverse at large. Additionally, one of Legends of Tomorrow‘s characters, John Constantine, shares a connection with Swamp Thing in the comics, which could explain Abby popping by the show. Even if a full Swamp Thing crossover with the Arrowverse doesn’t come to fruition, it’s nice to hear at least one actor from the series is interested.
