Sydney Sweeney reveals she brought her grandparents to the Euphoria season 2 premiere event, where they saw the explicit nature of her character. Sweeney stars in the HBO drama as Cassandra “Cassie” Howard, a classmate of Zendaya’s Rue who, in season 1, is struggling in her relationship with football player Chris McKay. Euporia season 2 sees Cassie struggling to overcome her grief from her breakup with Chris, turning to Nate Jacobs, her best friend Maddy’s on-again-off-again boyfriend with whom she enters a secret relationship with.

Based on the Israeli miniseries of the same name, Euphoria primarily centers on recovering teen drug addict Rue as she befriends and falls in love with Jules, a transgender student who is trying to find her own identity as a woman in the world and struggles to help Rue stay sober. Zendaya leads the cast of the series alongside Hunter Schafer as Jules, Sweeney as Cassie, Jacob Elordi as Nate, Algee Smith as Chris, Alexa Demie as Maddy, Maude Apatow as Cassie’s sister Lexi, Angus Cloud, Barbie Ferreira and Storm Reid. Though seeing some controversy for its more risqué content, Euphoria has seen largely positive reviews across its two seasons for its performances, approach to its themes, cinematography and musical score.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

On the heels of its conclusion, Sydney Sweeney appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss Euphoria season 2. The actress says she took her grandparents to the season 2 premiere event, forgetting how explicit the episode was, but revealed that they not only overlooked her nudity, but had a humorous response. See what Sweeney shared below:

“I invited my entire family and I didn’t really think about [the nudity]. I was like, ‘It’s a Hollywood premiere! You’ve got to come!’ We were all sitting next to each other and giant screen — ginormous screen. They said I have the best t-ts in Hollywood.”

Euphoria season 2 has seen some infamy in its development and production with varying reports from the cast and crew indicating an unhealthy environment on set. Star Barbie Ferreira has downplayed many of said reports, stating most are “untrue” while others are “mundane little things” that ultimately didn’t affect her time filming, despite some reports of her having walked off set multiple times due to differences with series creator/director Sam Levinson. HBO has also come out in defense of Levinson and the Euphoria season 2 set, stating that all health and SAG guidelines were followed accordingly and no requests for a formal investigation were made by anyone involved.

Sweeney’s time on Euphoria season 2 proved one of the more fascinating elements throughout, with the actress initially indicating she had asked for some nude scenes to be cut. Sweeney has since clarified she never asked Levinson to cut any scenes but instead worked with him to find the right points in the story for her to get nude. With Cassie’s arc resulting in an explosive finale, only time will tell what the future holds for Sweeney and her character in the series as development continues on Euphoria season 3.
