Netflix’s Tall Girl 2 provides ample twists and turns as Jodi navigates another year at Ruby Bridges High, but do Jodi and Jack stay together at the end? Directly following the events of Tall Girl, new director Emily Ting’s Tall Girl 2 sees Jodi Kreyman (Ava Michelle) at odds with her burgeoning confidence as her popularity begins to alienate her new boyfriend, Jack Dunkleman (Griffin Gluck). Tall Girl 2‘s ending is certainly drama-filled, throwing up several shocks as Jodi and her friends truly learn what it means to “stand tall.”

Despite a lukewarm critical reception upon release in 2019, Tall Girl was a smash hit for streaming giant Netflix. The first Tall Girl movie was viewed by a whopping 41 million households across its first 28 days on the platform, with Tall Girl 2 subsequently green-lit in 2020 with creator Sam Wolfson returning to pen the sequel. Early indications suggest Tall Girl 2 will be just as popular for Netflix, with several media outlets tracking its release down to the hour on February 11th, 2022.

Although largely following a linear, coming-of-age format, Tall Girl 2‘s ending provides audiences with several surprises to unpack. Jodi’s tumultuous relationship with Jack is thrown a lifeline, while Fareeda (Anjelika Washington) finds romance in the most unexpected of places. Here’s Tall Girl 2‘s ending explained, as well as a look at whether Jodi and Jack reconcile or not.

Do Jodi & Jack Get Back Together?

Tall Girl ends with Jack finally revealing why he always carries a milk crate by using it to kiss the eponymous “tall girl” Jodi. Yet from the outset of Tall Girl 2, Jack’s infatuation for his new girlfriend becomes more and more stifling, with the pair eventually breaking up mid-way through the movie. Jodi and Tommy Torres (Jan Luis Castellanos) appear to have a burgeoning romance, while Jack, rather spitefully (and pubicly), begins to date Stig Mohlin’s (Luke Eisner) sister Stella (Johanna Liauw). Yet despite these new love interests, Jodi and Jack inexorably find their way back to each other, with the pair reconciling at the school spring musical of Bye Bye Birdie.

Although not explicitly stated at the end of Tall Girl 2, Jack and Jodi’s kiss backstage at the school musical suggests the pair have indeed got back together. It is revealed that Jack left his seat vacant at the musical (much to Jodi’s initial chagrin) to take better photos of her from the rafters of the stage. This gesture, coupled with his declaration of love for Jodi, hints that Jack has done enough to earn her character’s forgiveness, although Tall Girl 2 still ends on something of a cliffhanger as far as the pair’s relationship is concerned.

Why Does Jodi Not Pursue Tommy?

One of the more jarring aspects of Tall Girl 2 is Jodi’s decision not to pursue new love interest Tommy Torres despite the pair’s obvious chemistry. Jodi and Tommy share a kiss at the movies after her breakup with Jack, while Tommy also supports her newfound confidence as her co-star in the Bye Bye Birdie musical. However, Tall Girl 2‘s direction abruptly changes near the end of the film, with Jodi and Tommy suddenly deciding to remain friends as Jodi realizes she still has feelings for Jack after trying to burn his gift from the first movie. Jodi’s stubborn feelings for Jack are used as the explanation for suddenly dropping Tommy, but this conclusion feels barely earned after the pair’s buoyant song renditions together across Tall Girl 2.

Are Stig and Fareeda dating?

An intriguing subplot to Tall Girl 2 is Stig Mohlin’s redemption from the first film. In Tall Girl, Stig is an arrogant, scheming exchange student that underhandedly attempts to woo Jodi away from Jack. When Jodi does not fall for Stig’s overtures, he tells his Ruby Bridges High classmates that Jodi is infatuated with him, highlighting his immaturity. Yet Stig’s rejection at the end of Tall Girl appears to have made him a better man this time around, with his character making genuine efforts to atone for his actions across Tall Girl 2.

As Stig ingratiates himself into Jodi’s friendship group, he becomes closer with her best friend Fareeda, whose clothing designs he champions. The pair eventually share a kiss, but Fareeda backs away in fear of breaking “the girl code,” as Stig was Jodi’s first crush in Tall Girl. Ava Michelle’s Jodi, however, has also grown from her experiences across both Tall Girl movies, with the protagonist giving Fareeda her blessing to date Stig and the pair subsequently admitting their chemistry to each other. Stig and Fareeda do not explicitly state they are dating in Tall Girl 2, but Stig’s relocation offer (more on this below) to Fareeda heavily implies an imminent relationship between the two.

Will Fareeda Join The Foreign Exchange Program?

After finding themselves free to pursue their clear adoration for each other, Stig and Fareeda embrace once again at the end of Tall Girl 2. Stig then asks Fareeda to join the foreign exchange program at his Swedish school, with Fareeda’s expression suggesting she is seriously considering taking him up on his offer. Although Fareeda gives no definitive answer, a move to a Swedish school could set up a tantalizing third Tall Girl movie in a fresh setting away from Ruby Bridges High, with the outcome of Stig’s offer likely hanging in the balance until then.

Will There Be A Tall Girl 3?

Although there is no official word yet from Netflix on the status of Tall Girl 3, a third movie in the series does seem increasingly likely. Netflix certainly has a penchant for releasing its own studio’s romantic comedies in threes, while the audience reception for Tall Girl and Tall Girl 2 displays a clear fanbase hungry to see more of Jodi Kreyman’s story. For now, however, audiences will have to be content with Jodi’s coming-of-age tale in Tall Girl 2 after her raucous success as Bye Bye Birdie‘s lead and flourishing self-belief that enabled her to mend her relationship with Jack in the best way possible.
