Team Fortress: 10 Best Halloween Maps

Team Fortress 2 is a popular multiplayer first-person shooter game that continues to garner new fans each year thanks to its annual Halloween Map updates. To date, there have been roughly 30 Halloween Maps added to the game since the fun holiday tie-in was created in October of 2009.  While some tend to get repetitive, others do a fantastic job of conjuring spooky Halloweentime decor and creepily festive settings.

With All Hallows Eve fast approaching, now is the perfect opportunity to highlight which Halloween Maps in Team Fortress 2 are the most enthralling to play while also delivering genuine thrills and chills.

10 Mann Manor

The second-ever Halloween Map featured in the stellar first-person shooter includes Mann Manor, which turns the Mountian Lab level into a harrowing house of horrors. Increasing locations from three in the first Halloween Map (Harvest Event) to nine, Mann Manor takes place in and around an eerie, decrepit old mansion owned by Redmond Mann.

With hidden pitfalls, freaky pumpkin bombs, ghostly gargoyles, and the terrifying presence of The Horseless Headless Horsemanm, Mann Manor includes three different control points and unsettling tunnels, cliffs, warehouses to traverse at night. As a clear improvement from the first Halloween map created, Mann Manor still holds up as a terrifying experience.

9 Hell Tower

Created in 2013, the Hell Tower Halloween Map turns the original Hightower map into a horrifying area populated by vengeful ghosts, decaying skeletons, magical spells, and hot lava bubbling from the pits of the underworld. Moreover, Hell Tower marks the introduction of The Witching Hour timed event that has since become a mainstay.

Meant to recreate the bowels of hell, players must leap over lava and traverse a map adorned with several towers, ramps, balconies, bridges, corridors, all of which lead to hell itself, which presents an even more evil and demonic area to overcome. The layout and hazards make Hell Tower one of the most unique Halloween maps.

8 Carnival Of Carnage

Those afraid of freaky carnivals and outlandish circus acts may want to avoid the terror presented in Carnival of Carnage, a map that morphs the Doomsday level into a Halloween nightmare to create one of the scariest horror game remasters. The spookily festive map forces players to use melee weapons alone without the help of firearms.

With frightening threats that include hulking strongmen, evil Sumerian circus gods, bottomless pits, pumpkin bombs, giant balloon heads, and the doomed Necro Smasher, the best part of the map is awesome the Bumper Car Arena which presents three thrillingly unpredictable outcomes.

7 Gravestone

Building on the abject terror introduced in Hellstone and Brimstone, Gravestone is one of the busiest and most baleful Halloween maps Team Fortress has to offer. Subverting the Rumble map, Gravestone includes a haunted sawmill littered with flying haunted sawblades and a petrifying pumpkin patch that houses the witch’s giant cauldron.

Beyond the mortifying nocturnal fogginess, Gravestone also features some of the most formidable villains in the game including the Headless Horsemen, Merasmus, and his red-eyed MONOCULUS. The map even includes a return of the ever-popular Bumper Car Race, making it versatile, fun, and scary at once.

6 Slasher

For slasher movie fans, the eponymous Halloween map in Team Fortress is a twisted nightmare come true. Set in a haunted campground at night, the map is clearly meant as an homage to Jason Vorhees and his brutal horror movie brethren.

Adorned with moody campfires, mines, boat docks, supply sheds, ranger offices, and more, players will encounter Merasmus and MONOCULUS, the Horseless Headless Horseman, ghosts, skeletons, and more. However, the real fun of the map comes via the astral jumping in and out of the Underworld, which, if successful, will grant a player countless perks.

5 Monster Bash

One Halloween map created from whole cloth includes Monster Bash, which takes place in a dreadfully atmospheric haunted Bavarian castle. The setting alone is enough to induce goosebumps, but it’s the rare presence of swinging Pendulum Blades and a mystifying Reanimator Machine that makes the map so memorably macabre. It’s definitely one of the spookiest settings in horror game history.

In order to defeat the map, players must collect a certain number of gibs and bring them to the Frankenstein-like reanimator device in the middle of the castle. If those Pendulum Blades don’t kill a player, they must traverse decaying courtyards, causeways, and conservatories with unnerving imagery around every corner.

4 Laughter

With voracious crocodiles and incendiary dynamite balloons ready to take a player down in a hurry, Laughter turns the original Slaughter map into a terrifying boardwalk amusement park. With new threats never before seen, the map is loaded with fun and freaky shooting galleries, roller-coasters, throwing games, a misfortune teller, and an ultra-fiendish funhouse. It’s sinister settings like these that would make the video game a great horror movie.

The funhouse alone is a dizzying and deeply disorienting affair full of spinning rooms, backward conveyor belts, canted floors, zig-zagging walls, and more. The map is loaded with tons of locations to get lost in, with the Pirate’s Plunder attraction being particularly painful.

3 Ghost Town

In one of the only Halloween maps to feature the vicious Voodoo-Cursed Soul Robots, Ghost Town turns the Coal Town map into one of the most disquieting holiday settings. Festooned with freaky and festive pumpkins, tombstones, spider webs, black cats, and more menacing iconography, Ghost Town becomes a desolate place for the undead to roam freely.

All of the robots have been reskinned to resemble hideous zombies in Ghost Town, with each of the five updates made since 2012 making the map scarier along the way. It may not be the most difficult Halloween map to finish, but in terms of sheer Halloweentime ambiance, Ghost Town excels.

2 Cursed Cove

In one of the few Halloween maps that predominantly features water and various aquatic tasks, Cursed Cove stands out more than most. Created from whole cloth rather than adapting a preexisting map, Cursed Cove is set in a haunted inlet of water that a player must navigate in unique ways.

Featuring a baleful beach, deadly dock, grisly gate, painful port, and a creepy courtyard, Cursed Cove also throws several unique hazards at a player, including exploding barrels, receding water, pitfalls, and drowning undercurrents. If successful with those endeavors, the map will guide them to Davey Jones’ Locker, a haunted underwater ship where the Flying Dutchman’s ghost presides.

1 Graveyard

When it comes to the scariest Halloween settings, graveyards top the list. In Team Fortress, the normal Lumber Yard Map is turned into a cemetery littered with moldering gravestones, stygian gloom, pumpkin bombs, decaying skeletons, pitfalls, and of course, the Horseless Headless Horsemann.

The lethal locations in the map include Spawn Rooms, a Charnel Church, a mountainside, and a cliffside, all of which present unique challenges and harrowing threats. The crematorium is especially unsettling due to its labyrinthine layout and nocturnal timeline. All told, few Team Fortress maps evoke the Halloween spirit more than Graveyard.
