The inaugural season of Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso proved to be a huge success. Not only was it popular with subscribers but it was met with critical acclaim to the point where it racked up 13 Emmy nominations, giving it the most of any series up for the awards in 2021.

Season 2 is on the horizon and fans are eagerly awaiting its arrival to find out what happens next, especially given the way season 1 ended. While waiting for these highly anticipated episodes, there are great movies and shows to check out with the cast of Ted Lasso, which is a treat given how enjoyable the show’s actors are together.

10 Anthony Head (Rupert Mannion) – Buffy The Vampire Slayer

The entire story of Ted Lasso got put into motion before the pilot even began, as Rebecca Welton divorced Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head). Mannion was the owner of AFC Richmond and loved his team more than his wife, as evidenced by the way he cheated on her countless times.

Although Head doesn’t appear often in this series, he plays a crucial role. He was around much more in his most memorable role, which was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Rupert Giles in over 120 episodes. He was a father figure to Buffy and was so popular that a spin-off was even considered for Giles.

9 Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya) – The Feed

Although this series has many likable characters, it’s hard to find someone more appealing than Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh). He’s a player from Nigeria who struggles to get settled in with the team and dearly misses his home. Still, he puts on a brave face and is one of the team’s shining stars.

Toheeb Jimoh has the shortest career filmography of anyone in the principal cast. Other than a short film in 2015, he only started getting roles in 2019. One of them was as Marcus for seven episodes of a series titled The Feed. Jimoh impressed in Ted Lasso and has an upcoming role in a show called The Power.

8 Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) – Downton Abbey

Leslie Higgins is another character who is enjoyable. He started on the wrong foot given how he kept Rupert’s affairs secret from Rebecca but he grows into someone better. That’s especially true when he works alongside the rest of the Diamond Dogs.

Leslie is played by Jeremy Swift, a veteran with credits dating back to the ’80s. Most of his work has come on the stage but this Emmy nominee appeared on three seasons of Downton Abbey as Septimus Spratt, the butler of the Dowager Countess.

7 Nick Mohammed (Nathan Shelley) – Intelligence

When Ted and Coach Beard arrived at the pitch at AFC Richmond, the first person they ran into was Nathan Shelley. Innocent Nathan insisted that he wasn’t important but Ted always remembered his name and looked out for him. Nathan knew the game and became an assistant coach by the end of season 1.

The awesome Nathan Shelley is portrayed by Nick Mohammed, who has shown up in a handful of major movies and television shows over the years. His most prominent part is likely as Joseph Harries in Intelligence, a show that he also created and is the writer of. David Schwimmer stars with him.

6 Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt) – Catastrophe

Along with Rebecca in the early stages, Jamie Tartt is the show’s antagonist. He’s an extremely gifted soccer player who has a “golden foot” but he was also completely selfish, arrogant, and didn’t care about any of his teammates. Phil Dunster plays Jamie, who was ultimately moved to a different team and once there, finally became a good teammate.

Like a lot of the cast members on the series, Dunster is someone who started acting this decade. He is known for playing Lance Corporal Will Jensen for eight of the 10 episodes during the Retribution season of Strike Back, as well as Nico in Catastrophe.

5 Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) – Community

The show may be about Ted Lasso but right by his side at every turn is Coach Beard. He’s an interesting person who loves chess and doesn’t say all that much, making him a perfect partner for Ted. They’re a great team, with Beard shining in every scene.

Brendan Hunt takes on the role of Coach Beard and is someone with a history besides Jason Sudeikis. That includes roles in We’re The Millers and Horrible Bosses 2. A fun appearance of his came during season 3 of Community where he was a hitchhiker picked up by Britta and Shirley.

4 Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) – Superbob

AFC Richmond is led by the veteran Roy Kent. He’s the team leader even though his skills have diminished with age but he gives his all on every play. Despite his tough demeanor, he’s actually a sweetheart and one of the show’s most likable people.

If you’ve only seen Brett Goldstein as Roy, then it might feel odd to view him in another light. However, he’s totally different in Superbob, a comedic film where he plays a postman who gets superpowers. On top of the fun role, Goldstein also co-wrote the screenplay.

3 Juno Temple (Keeley Jones) – Vinyl

Keeley Jones is someone who brightens up every room that she enters. The ex-girlfriend of Jamie Tartt and current girlfriend of Roy Kent is a model who proves to be more than a pretty face. She’s a great friend to Rebecca and Ted, helps everyone around her grow, and gets a job with the team.

Jones is played by Juno Temple, an actor who is still young but has almost countless credits to her name. Along with a long list of indie flicks, Temple has worked in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For as Sally and in The Dark Knight Rises as Jen, a friend of Selina Kyle/Catwoman. There was also her part as Jamie Vine in HBO’s Vinyl.

2 Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton) – Game Of Thrones

The premise of Ted Lasso is similar to Major League in that a woman takes over a team and tries to drive them into the ground. Here though, Rebecca Welton is actually doing it out of revenge for what Rupert did to her and she eventually becomes a better person who roots for the team.

Nominated for an Emmy for her work as Rebecca is Hannah Waddingham, who is most known for her stage career in productions like The Wizard of Oz and Into the Woods. In terms of TV, you might not recognize her but she did play Septa Unella in Game of Thrones, where she famously was part of Cersei’s walk of shame.

1 Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) – Horrible Bosses

Of course, everything about this series surrounds Ted Lasso, the American football coach brought to lead AFC Richmond despite not knowing much about the sport. Of course, through his earnestness and likability, he wins everyone over from his players to those in the front office.

Jason Sudeikis has already earned four Emmy nods for his work as Ted Lasso and won a Golden Globe. His career is a long one, with roles in all sorts of films and TV shows. It could be argued that his breakout performance was as Kurt Buckman in both installments of Horrible Bosses.
