Ted Lasso season 3 has officially started filming, as confirmed by Apple TV+. The comedy series premiered its season 1 on the streaming service amidst the early days of the pandemic lockdown in 2020 and quickly caught with audiences as a feel-good sitcom. However, Ted Lasso season 1 and 2 also dealt with some serious topics, including mental health, anxiety and depression. Jason Sudeikis has been showered with praise and awards for his performance as the titular American football coach who is unexpectedly hired to manage an English soccer team, AFC Richmond.

Other than Sudeikis, stars Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein have also won Emmy Awards for their performances in Ted Lasso, along with Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, and Jeremy Swift receiving nominations as well. After Ted Lasso season 2 ended on a massive cliffhanger last fall, fans have been hoping for another quick turnaround for season 3 from the series’ creative team, which includes Sudeikis, Golstein, Hunt, Bill Lawrence, and Joe Kelly. This appeared to be the case when previous reports indicated season 3 had begun filming, but now official word from the streamer is here.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

According to Apple TV‘s Twitter account, Ted Lasso season 3 has started production. The tweet was in response to a picture posted by Nike revealing a new partnership with the show for AFC Richmond’s redesigned jerseys. Apple TV responded to the tweet, saying “New season. New kits.” Check out the exchange below:

Waddingham previously revealed that Ted Lasso season 3 would begin filming in March and now Apple TV has sent official word to confirm everything is running on schedule. This is in spite of a previous photo posted online by Mohammed in January that suggested he was on set and filming new scenes as Nathan Shelley, rocking the character’s now-signature gray hair. No matter when the cameras starting rolling, fans are just likely glad to hear that Ted Lasso season 3 is underway, especially after rumors that it may be delayed.

Ted Lasso was originally developed with a three-season plan in mind, meaning that the upcoming episodes might be the end of the hit show in its current form, which creator Bill Lawrence has said could be the case. Given all this, Ted Lasso season 3 could act as an emotional sendoff for Sudeikis’ perpetually positive coach and his team of eccentric underdogs. With season 3 now in production, audiences can likely expect to see Ted Lasso return to Apple TV+ later this year.
