Ted Lasso producers tease season 3 story details. Season 1 of Jason Sudeikis’ comedy about an American football coach taking charge of a struggling English soccer team debuted on Apple TV+ in 2020. The show’s sharply-drawn characters and positive vibe made it an immediate hit with audiences as well as a darling of critics.

Ted Lasso season 2 then arrived in 2021 to provide a perfect pick-me-up for streaming audiences amid the uncertainty of the COVID pandemic. Later in the year, the Primetime Emmy Awards showered prizes on the show, including Outstanding Comedy Series as well as acting awards for Sudeikis and co-stars Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein. And season 3 of Ted Lasso is now on the way from Apple TV+ and indeed is confirmed to have just begun filming.

It’s no surprise of course that Ted Lasso’s creators are being tight-lipped about how the story will develop in season 3. But producers did let loose with a couple of teasers when recently asked about the show on the PGA Awards red carpet (via Deadline). “I think it’s just more of what everyone loves and what has worked and just going deeper into the characters,” producer Liza Katzer said. Producer Kip Kroeger then chimed in, “It’s deeper into the backstories. You know, we’re going to get a little more information about where they came from.” Producer Declan Lowney elaborated, “And knowing those guys there’s bound to be a bunch of surprises, things you didn’t see coming, some curveballs in there.”

These remarks are suitably vague given that Ted Lasso season 3 only just began shooting. They do however jibe with other recent remarks from Coach Beard actor Brendan Hunt, who also said to expect more origin stories in season 3, including deeper dives into the backstories of battling exes Rebecca and Rupert. Hunt also teased that season 3 will contain a significant time jump.

Ted Lasso season 3 of course has a lot of business to attend to after the way things played out at the end of season 2. Nate’s exit from AFC Richmond and new gig coaching at a rival soccer squad owned by Rebecca’s ex-husband Rupert obviously was the most dramatic season 2 development. But it was also significant that Keeley elected to leave the team to head up her own PR firm. There’s also the question of Ted’s on-going struggle with his panic attacks, which were addressed throughout season 2. The new teases just offered by producers certainly don’t clear up any of the big questions left after season 2, but they do indicate that Ted Lasso season 3 will try to go even deeper into the characters and their histories, hopefully making the show an even richer experience for audiences.
