Warning! Spoilers ahead for Teen Titans Academy #1

In DC Comics’ new Teen Titans Academy series, Nightwing and the original Titans open up Titans Tower, having turned it into a school to teach and guide the next generation of superheroes. In the first issue, several new characters are introduced as the academy’s incoming freshman, while the current Teen Titans are identified as the upperclassmen, still learning but also going out on missions as well. Here’s a roll call of every student and teacher in DC’s new series.

In the first issue from writer Tim Sheridan and artist by Rafa Sandoval, the new students arrive by boat, and the school’s faculty welcome them all in an opening ceremony. As previously mentioned, the heroes teaching are none other than the original Titans themselves such as Nightwing, Starfire, Raven, Donna Troy, Cyborg, and Beast Boy. While Starfire gives the first day of school speech in this first issue, Nightwing cracks jokes in Simulator Combat Training, Donna Troy teaches History of the Multiverse, while Cyborg handles Home Economics. Not only that, but it looks as though they all serve as faculty advisors to groups of students as well.

As far as the incoming freshman are concerned, it’s a fairly large bunch, and a handful have already been seen in DC’s Future State: Teen Titans as well (with some of these new Titans having died in a future crisis). Some of the new students are introduced to readers while having lunch in the cafeteria, such as Gothamites Megabat, Chupacabra, and Bratgirl (otherwise known as the Bat Pack). It’s also revealed that Billy Batson’s Shazam is in attendance, along with his new roommate Miguel Montez and his H-Dial. However, many of the new freshmen are introduced during Nightwing’s roll call during simulator training.

There’s certainly an interesting collection of new students including Summer Zahid, a girl whose cryogenic powers activated during DC’s Endless Winter event. There’s also Alinta, a speedster from Australia, Gorilla Gregg who more than likely hails from Gorilla City, and then there’s Tooby, a boy who can turn himself into a tube (to name a notable few). Additionally, the Teen Titans Academy has upperclassmen, and these are the young heroes who were the current Teen Titans prior to the new school’s opening such as Roundhouse, Crush, Kid Flash, and Red Arrow. However, they’re also joined by a reinstated Bunker, as well as a recently recruited Jakeem Thunder and his genie. While they’re still learning and attending classes, they’re also allowed to go out into the field on missions to gain hands-on experience as Teen Titans.

All in all, it looks as though DC’s Teen Titans Academy is ready to roll for the next generation to start learning how to be Titans. However, the new series isn’t without its mysteries. One currently unknown student is attempting to bring back Nightwing’s old Red X identity, which certainly has a dark past. As such, it looks as though the new school is in for a wild ride in upcoming issues from DC Comics.
