Warning! Spoilers for Eternals: The Heretic #1 by Marvel Comics

In the Marvel Universe, few villains are more universally feared across the cosmos than Thanos, but his Eternal great-uncle Uranos might be even more terrifying. In a brand new preview for Eternals: The Heretic #1, Thanos comes face-to-face with his long-lost great-uncle, where it’s immediately clear Uranos is even more hellbent on death and destruction than the Mad Titan himself.

Uranos the Undying first appeared in Captain Marvel #29 by Jim Starlin. The Eternal was the catalyst for the Civil War between the race of ancient beings, as he wanted to destroy humanity, but his brother Kronos opposed him. After being defeated, the Eternals put Uranos into exile, where he’s been kept for thousands of years. Uranos is the great-uncle to Thanos, as Kronos is the Mad Titan’s grandfather. In the present timeline, Thanos will meet Uranos, as the Prime Eternal encounters the villain who is somehow more terrifying than him.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In a brand new preview for Eternals: The Heretic #1 (H/T AIPTComics) by Kieron Gillen, Ryan Bodenheim, Edgar Salazar, Chris O’Halloran, and VC’s Clayton Cowles, Thanos laments about how meeting his parents showed him how weak his bloodline truly is. Druig offers Thanos the chance to meet his grandfather Uranos – the Mad Titan’s great-uncle – with the Great Machine’s narration even being too afraid to continue talking about him.

Uranos doesn’t waste any time belittling Thanos, as he tells his great-nephew that he hoped to meet him and look “another disappointment” in the eyes. The supervillain also calls out Thanos for not going far enough with his snap that killed half the universe, saying fifty percent is a “lack of commitment,” and he either “do something or don’t do it.” While the preview ends before Thanos can react to Uranos the Undying’s barrage of insults, it’s safe to say the Mad Titan won’t respond well to his great-uncle’s barbs – especially considering he’s already on edge after being reunited with his parents.

The question remains, what will Thanos do with Uranos? Meeting his long-lost great-uncle may help him seek answers regarding his parents, but if he decides to free the supervillain from isolation, it would surely throw the already tense world of the Eternals into chaos. Thanos releasing Uranos seems like a long shot, even if his great-uncle could inflict serious damage across the cosmos – as doing so would threaten his rule as Uranos could become a massive problem for him. Eternals: The Heretic #1 by Marvel Comics arrives in comic book stores on Wednesday.
