Warning! Spoilers for Eternals #10 by Marvel Comics

The Avengers might have been unwilling to initially sacrifice Vision in Avengers: Infinity War and destroy the Mind Stone to stop Thanos, but the Mad Titan’s parents don’t feel the same when it comes to collateral damage. In Eternals #10 by Marvel Comics, Thanos threatens his recently returned parents with killing ten thousand innocent lives if they don’t give him information only they have about restoring his body to its full strength. Thanos’ parents refuse, telling him that better they burn instead of entire worlds.

In Avengers: Endgame, after learning Thanos’ Black Order is on Earth and attempting to assemble the Infinity Stones for the Mad Titan, Vision volunteers to sacrifice himself and the Mind Stone to prevent the villain from gaining the greatest power known in the universe. But, the Avengers refuse to sacrifice Vision, opting to figure out a different solution that eventually takes them to Wakanda, where they attempt to remove the Mind Stone safely. Unfortunately, that plan fails, as Thanos finally catches up to the Avengers and kills Vision twice (after rewinding time following Scarlet Witch destroying the Mind Stone too late) and gains the final stone needed for the Infinity Gauntlet – leading to the snap. If the Avengers had destroyed the Mind Stone when Vision suggested his sacrifice, Thanos might have never gained the full powers of the Infinity Stones.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In Eternals #10 from Marvel Comics by Kieron Gillen, Esad Ribic, Matthew Wilson, and VC’s Clayton Cowles, Thanos learns his parents are alive and are the key to restoring his damaged body to its former powerful self. After pulling them through isolation and killing them over and over again, Thanos attempts to blackmail Mentor and Sui-San, telling them he will destroy an entire town of more than ten thousand people if they don’t give him the answers he seeks.

Realizing Thanos at full strength would be a much bigger problem for the Marvel Universe than the deaths of thousands of people, his parents refuse to give him his desired information. Mentor tells him, “better they burn than we help you render more worlds cinder, child.” Thanos would detonate the plasma vent in response to his parent’s refusal to give him their knowledge.

While the stakes aren’t as high as they were in Avengers: Infinity War, where Thanos planned on snapping half of all living things from existence, Thanos’ parents, unlike the Avengers, realize that a fully-powered Thanos is much worse than anything he can do while not at full strength. Thanos’ parents would undoubtedly destroy the Infinity Stone given the same chance if in the same spot as the Avengers, as they would likely understand Vision’s life should have been sacrificed to stop the greater evil. So, while the Avengers screwed up by not sacrificing Vision and the Mind Stone to save more lives down the line, Thanos’ parents refuse to give into their vile son’s plans realizing it would just lead to the worst possible outcome.
