There are few fights in the Marvel Universe that are as exciting as Hulk battling Thanos. Match-ups between Earth’s strongest hero and the Mad Titan has made for some epic moments in the comics, but who is more likely to come out ahead when the two powerful heroes go toe-to-toe?

In Avengers: Infinity War, an Infinity Gauntlet-wielding Thanos makes quick work of the Hulk. Thanos proved to be an extremely tactical fighter who overcomes the brute by pure fighting skill and an assist from the Power Stone. In the comics, Thanos has had similar experiences when dealing with the Jade Giant – however, his power-ups have certainly helped. While the Hulk has come out victorious before, Thanos has proven multiple times that he’s able to defeat the Avenger by a mix of fighting ability and special powers granted through the Infinity Stones.

Essentially, Thanos’ main advantage has been having the Infinity Stones. In the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, Thanos manages to shrink Hulk down to size and later slaps the Hulk and Drax down to the ground with a backhand. He’s used the stones on multiple occasions to make the Hulk seem extremely weak. Thanos has also managed to control the Hulk with the stones, using him to fight his own battles against the Avengers.

In the Thanos vs. Hulk storyline, the pair exchange blows, but even without the stones at his disposal, Thanos manages to overpower his opponent. Time and time again, Thanos has shown that he doesn’t need the Infinity Stones to take down the Hulk, so when he does have them, he’s practically unstoppable. Even when Hulk is at his full powers, Thanos can deal with him. In the ‘Thanos Wins’ arc, the Mad Titan even makes the Hulk his killer pet at the end of the universe.

So, how does the Hulk defeat Thanos? Basically, for Bruce Banner to come out on top he needs a little help from his friends. One-on-one, he has shown he stands little chance. But, with Captain America, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, and the rest of the Avengers by his side, Hulk has been part of a team that’s taken down Thanos.

The Hulk shouldn’t be ashamed he’s struggled to beat Thanos single-handedly. Thanos is one of the most powerful beings in the entire Marvel Universe who’s often powered up by the Infinity Stones. Few heroes have ever taken him on by themselves and come out victorious. He’s called the Mad Titan for a reason. Comics have shown that like in the movies, Thanos wins against the Hulk. The Hulk is a worthy opponent, but even the strongest hero on Earth is no match for Thanos.
