The first trailer for The Mandalorian gave a brief look at some of the characters in this new Star Wars adventure, including one that has been mistaken for Lando Calrissian. The Star Wars universe continues its expansion not only on the big screen with the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, but also with TV shows such as The Mandalorian, to be released on Disney+.

The Mandalorian is set five years after the fall of the Empire in Return of the Jedi and before the First Order took over. The series will follow a lone bounty hunter (played by Pedro Pascal) on the outer reaches of the galaxy, very far from the authority of the New Republic. Most details are still being kept under wraps, and only a few character names have been revealed so far, but what fans can be sure of is that that is not Lando Calrissian in the trailer.

The Mandalorian trailer offers quick looks at some settings, characters, and events in just one and a half minutes, without revealing too much – however, at around the 0:29 mark, there’s a character that some viewers have been confusing with Billy Dee Williams, aka Lando Calrissian. Well, that’s actually Carl Weathers, and he’s playing Greef Carga, the leader of a bounty hunter guild who hires the Mandalorian for a mysterious job. As previously mentioned, details are still a mystery, but Lando isn’t expected to make an appearance in this series. However, Star Wars fans will reunite with him later this year.

Lando Calrissian will return in Star Wars 9, marking his first onscreen appearance since Return of the Jedi in 1983. As with everything related to the saga these days, details on Lando’s role in the film are a mystery, but his appearance will surely make a lot of fans happy. As for Carl Weathers and Greef Carga, this is their first appearance in the saga, but it’s not Weathers’ first sci-fi role. Although he’s best remembered as Apollo Creed in Rocky, Weathers has appeared in other films such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Alien Siege, and American Warships.

The Mandalorian will introduce new characters to the Star Wars universe but within one that fans are already familiar with, as the series is still part of the Skywalker saga. Lando Calrissian will not be part of this story, but Greef Carga is, and it will be interesting to see how big his role in this universe will be. As for Lando, his return to the big screen will surely be exciting, no matter how much screen time he has.
