2015 was a golden year for the movie lovers, especially, action and adventure fanatics. The year offered something for every section of the audience. 10 Tomorrowland: 6.4/10

This science-fiction adventure movie is also spiced with a generous dollop of mystery. The movie was directed by Brad Bird. Bird had also co-written the script along with other writers.

The lead role is starred by George Clooney. A cynical but genius scientist and a teenager travel to an alternate timeline, to unlock the secrets of the Tomorrowland. The movie received plaudits for the original premise, music, good acting and cinematography, but, faced a chunk of criticism for the sloppy writing and overall tone.

9 Spectre: 6.8/10

The twenty-fourth movie in the James Bond series, Spectre was directed by Sam Mendes. This was also his second (that he directed) in the series after Skyfall. This is the fourth movie where Daniel Craig starred as James Bond. The story revolves around James Bond traveling across the globe and fighting against a criminal organization called Spectre.

A character that highly resembles controversial Blofeld appears too, but, hasn’t been named or shown explicitly. The movie was appreciated for its action scenes, acting, music, and treatment, but was criticized for too long runtime and slow pace.

8 Jurassic World: 7/10

American sci-fi adventure Jurassic World is the fourth movie in the Jurassic Park series. It was directed by Colin Trevorrow. The script also included some suggestions from the Executive Producer Steven Spielberg.

The first of the Jurassic World Trilogy is centered around the theme park of genetically engineered dinosaurs. It turns into chaos when one of the dinosaurs escapes from the cage. 7 Everest: 7.1/10

Everest is an intense biographical adventure movie directed by Baltasar Kormákur. It is inspired by the real disastrous event of 1996, known as the Mount Everest Disaster. The plot revolves around two expedition groups on their final ascent to the Mount Everest when the weather turns worse.

Their survival attempts form the rest of the story. The movie performed really well at the Box-office and was critically acclaimed worldwide. Fans loved it for its breathtaking visuals.

6 Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation: 7.4/10

The action-adventure MI: Rogue Nation was directed and written by Christopher McQuarrie. It is the fifth movie in the MI series. The lead actors Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hollander, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames reprised their original roles from the previous movies.

The lead protagonist is Ethan Hunt who is pursuing an extremely skilled and dangerous terrorist organization. The movie was a success and it earned more than $500 million all over the world and was the eighth highest-earning movie of 2015.

5 Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens: 7.9/10

This adventurous space opera episode was directed by J. J. Abrams. It is the sequel to the Return of the Jedi and the first movie of the sequel trilogy. 30 years after the Return of the Jedi; Rey, Finn, and Poe set out on a mission to locate the last Jedi, Luke and fight the New Order.

The movie did really well and is the fourth highest-grossing movie of all times closely following Titanic, Avatar, and Avengers: Endgame.

4 The Martian: 8/10

The Martian is a sci-fi adventure directed by Ridley Scott. The script is adapted from the novel with the same name by Andy Weir. The plot revolves around an astronaut left behind on Mars, played by Hollywood A-lister Matt Damon.

The story explores his struggle to survive and the efforts to rescue and bring him home. The movie is also special in the way that it is the highest-earning movie by Ridley Scott so far. It also fetched several awards and nominations to the crew and the lead actor Matt Damon.

3 The Revenant: 8/10

The survival drama and adventure movie The Revenant was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. A chunk of the plot is based upon a 2002 novel of the same name by Michael Punke, which was inspired by true events too. The lead actors are Lionardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy.

The protagonist of this thriller adventure is a legendary explorer, who is on a survival mission after getting attacked by a bear, abandoned by his crew and left to die by his own team member. The movie received incredible love and appreciation from the fans and critics and went on to win three Golden Globe awards. Lionardo DiCaprio too won three awards for the Best Actor for his performance.

2 Inside Out: 8.2/10

Inside Out is a light-toned animation adventure movie. It was directed by Pete Docter. The script is loosely based on the changes in the personality of Docter’s daughter through adolescent years. Numerous psychologists were also consulted to give the movie a realistic approach.

The lead protagonist is a young girl and her five emotions, who try to steer her life when she moves from Minnesota to San Francisco. The movie received several awards for the concept, premise and performances of the voice over artists, especially Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, of The Office fame, Lewis Black and Richard Kind.

1 Mad Max: Fury Road: 8.1/10

Mad Max: Fury Road is an action-packed adventure movie directed and co-written by George Miller. Quite interestingly, the movie was pushed into pre-production in 1997 and it took 17 years to finalize and release it. The lead actors are Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. The plot explores a post-apocalyptic world where water is scarce.

Max and a rebel woman form an army in an attempt to overthrow the tyrant ruler of the wasteland. It is a must-watch movie, full of mind-blowing and jaw-dropping moments. Fury Road is the highest-earning Mad Max movie and has been ranked as the best movie of 2015 by many.
