2011 was a great time for movies as lots of movies released during the year went on to be super hits. This year was also great for sequels as the most numbers of sequels (as high as 28) were released during this year. The good thing is most of them fared very well. Some really memorable comedy movies were released and appreciated by comedy lovers. Today we are going to share with you ten best comedy movies of 2011, based on its IMDB rating.

10 Tower Heist – IMDB Rating 6.2

Directed by Brett Ratner, this American heist comedy proved to be the comeback movie for Eddi Murphy. Interestingly, the plot was a brainchild of Murphy himself, and they had been developing and modifying the script since 2005.

A rich businessman scams a few innocent, hard-working men following which, they form a group and set out for revenge. How they plan a heist and execute it, forms the rest of the story. Although fans loved the movie, critics called it rushed and dull. Everyone loved Murphy in the movie, though.

9 Horrible Bosses – IMDB Rating 6.9

This black comedy was directed by Seth Gordon. The script is based on a story by Michael Markowitz. It took six years to edit the script and finalize the actors after which they finally moved it to production. Three friends hate their respective bosses so much so that they hire a hitman to murder them. Only, the problem is things do not turn out as they expected. The flick went on to be the highest-grossing crime/noir comedy of all times and earned much more than was initially expected. While critics loved the plot, some fans called the jokes racist and homophobic.

8 Rango – IMDB Rating 7.2

The animation comedy, Rango was directed by Gore Verbinski. The plot is based on a screenplay by John Logan. It’s not just a kids’ movie, rather it has several interesting and thought-provoking moments for adults too. The USP is a dollop of dark humor sprinkled generously throughout the movie.

The lead protagonist is a pet chameleon who lands in a town struggling with water shortage and nasty villains. Rango, voiced by Johnny Depp won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, 2011.

7 Kung Fu Panda 2 – IMDB Rating 7.2

Po needs no introductions. The second in the Kung Fu Panda series of 2008, this was directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson. Jack Black and Angelina Jolie have given their voices for the lead characters. This time, the antagonist is a white peacock Shen, who aspires to conquer the whole of China. How Po and the famous five-fight him and restore peace, is the core of the story. This movie also explores Po’s past and reveals the secret of his birth and parents, which fans had long been waiting for. It was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, but, lost to Rango.

6 The Descendants – IMDB Rating 7.3

This dramedy(drama plus comedy) was directed by Alexander Payne. It is based on the novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings. The story revolves around a man whose estranged wife is in a coma after she met with an unfortunate accident.

He unites with his two daughters and together they try to find the man his wife was dating, shortly before her accident. George Clooney, star of The Descendants, won an Oscar for the Best Adapted Screenplay and two Golden Globes for Best Picture and Best Actor.

5 Crazy, Stupid, Love – IMDB Rating 7.4

The Rom-Com Crazy, Stupid Love was directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. The stars are Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei, and Kevin Bacon. The plot revolves around a naïve middle-aged man who is very recently divorced. He is on a mission to rediscover his life and overcome his loneliness, by picking up girls at bars. The film fared really well and Ryan Gosling was nominated for Best Actor – Comedy at Golden Globe.

4 50/50 – IMDB Rating 7.6

American drama-comedy, 50/50 was directed by Jonathan Levine. The plot was written by Will Reiser. The movie is a rough sketch of his own life experience after he was diagnosed with Cancer. The protagonist is a young journalist who is happily going on with his life when he is diagnosed with spinal cancer.

The rest of the story explores his battle with the disease, love, and friendship. It received tons of critical acclaim. Fans especially loved the performance of Joseph Gordon Levitt and the beautiful (and hilarious) plot.

3 The Hangover Part II – IMDB Rating 6.4

This must-watch hilarious movie was directed by Todd Philips and is the second in The Hangover trilogy. The script was co-written by Todd, Scot Armstrong, and Craig Mazin. In a follow up to the previous story. Phil, Stu, Doug, and Alan visit Thailand for Stu’s wedding. All of them indulge in a late-night pre-wedding brunch and when they wake up the next morning, they find everything gone awry. The movie did extremely well and went on to be the highest-grossing R rated comedy.

2 The Artist – IMDB Rating 7.9

French Dramedy, The Artist was directed by Michel Hazanavicius. It follows a black and white silent movie style. The lead actors are Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo. The story revolves around a silent movie star, George Valentin. A young movie actress Peppy falls in love with him.

The rest of the story explores their relationship after Peppy becomes successful and the silent movie style starts going out of fashion. The Artist was widely appreciated by critics and fans alike and won three Golden Globes – Best Motion Picture, Best Original Score and Best Actor. Jean Dujardin also won the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival.

1 The Intouchables – IMDB Rating 8.5

The Intouchables (French) was directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano. The plot is inspired by a true story. It is heartwarming and very light-toned with humor sprinkled generously. An aristocrat French man meets with an accident during paragliding, following which he hires a troubled young man from projects, to be his home support and caretaker. An unlikely but beautiful friendship develops with some hilariously funny moments in tow. It was the most viewed French movie of all time until 2014. This feel-good dramedy must not be missed.
