Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends was a cartoon that ran for three seasons from 1981-1983. The series revolved around the Spider Friends; namely, Peter Parker (Spider-Man), Angelica Jones (Firestar) and Bobby Drake (Iceman).

They are college students, but also secretly heroes that battle villains and save the world frequently. The ’80s cartoon produced some exciting and memorable episodes, which would include familiar characters such as Thor, Doctor Strange, and even Tony Stark in their storylines.

10 “The Vengeance Of Loki!” (7.2)

Loki, as always, is up to no good this episode, when he banishes Thor and Iceman to remote areas in Asgard, and traps Firestar and Spider-Man inside two ancient gems. With the heroes out of the way, Loki unleashes his wrath on New York City. Iceman manages to escape, but endures some complications when the woman who helped him falls for him. Thor also escapes, and together, he and Iceman head to New York, free Firestar and Spider-Man, and take down Loki, with Thor sending his brother to Asgard where Loki will be suitably punished. Iceman also manages to part on good terms with the woman who fell for him; it just goes to show that the heroes never know where a day will take them, but they’ll overcome obstacles and right whatever wrongs have been caused.

9 “The X-Men Adventure” (7.2)

While the Spider Friends are training with the X-Men, a real threat puts their skills to the test when the X-Men Mansion is taken over by Nathan Price, aka Cyberiad, a man from Firestar’s past. The Spider Friends and the X-Men must brave the traps of the mansion and make it up to the attic to stop him, and several are captured along the way. Firestar’s emotions are tested as she remembers her old flame and worries over what to do when she faces him. This proves to be a struggle as Firestar must do the right thing, but has no desire to hurt the man she once loved, even if he is now half-machine due to an accident that he blames her for.

8 “The Prison Plot” (7.3)

The Spider Friends get jobs, hoping to make enough money to buy Aunt May a birthday present, but their normal lives are again infiltrated by villains. In this particular episode, that villain is Magneto. Magneto takes control of of the East Coast’s power supply and imprisons those present, including the Spider Friends, demanding that his “Brotherhood of Evil Mutants” be released from jail immediately.

Luckily, the Spider Friends find a way around his trap and end up luring Magneto to a trap of another kind, again saving the day and outsmarting yet another villain.

7 “Spidey Goes Hollywood” (7.4)

Spider-Man isn’t thrilled to work on a movie set, but does so to help Aunt May make a house payment. The Spider Friends’ Hollywood adventure doesn’t necessarily include the razzle-dazzle celebrity scene, especially when one thing after another keeps going wrong on set, endangering lives. None other than Mysterio is behind the problems on set. The Spider Friends also get a chance to hang out with Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk, in this episode.

6 “Spider-Man Unmasked!” (7.6)

Spider-Man lands in some hot water when his secret identity is discovered. After saving some people, Spider-Man changes back into Peter Parker, unknowingly right in front of The Sandman, who’s masquerading as a sandcastle on the beach. The Sandman uses this new information to his advantage, forcing Spider-Man to give up being a hero when the Sandman threatens harm to Aunt May. However, the Spider Friends manage to trick the Sandman into thinking what he saw was wrong, by having him see Peter and Spider-Man in one place at the same time. Luckily, the plan works, and the Sandman ends up captured, having been no match for the trio.

5 “A Fire-Star Is Born” (7.6)

While at an X-Men reunion with Iceman, Firestar is asked to recall what it was like to have her powers. In flashbacks, audiences see what it was like for Firestar growing up, from discovering her powers to being constantly tormented by a classmate named Bonnie. Firestar’s father is shown to be very loving and supportive of her, and she uses her powers to save him at one point. Her story also details when she was recruited by the X-Men.

However, Firestar’s trip down memory lane comes to an end when Juggernaut crashes the reunion, intending to destroy Professor X, as well as the X-Men. However, Juggernaut is outmatched by the X-Men and Spider-Man, the latter of whom crashes the reunion to help fight the villain. In the end, these events made it a memorable reunion, according to Firestar.

4 “7 Little Superheroes” (7.7)

A weekend island retreat turns into a nightmare for the Spider Friends, alongside other superheroes Doctor Strange, Captain America, The Sub-Mariner, and Shanna the She-Devil, who have also been invited to the retreat. Turns out, the entire thing was planned by the Chameleon, who intends to kill all the superheroes, and who has trapped them on the island. The heroes are unsure of who to trust, given that the Chameleon can morph into and impersonate any one of them, but with the help of Firestar’s dog Ms. Lion, it makes it easier for the heroes to determine that their fellow heroes are who they say they are. They all manage to escape in the nick of time, foiling the Chameleon’s plans.

3 “The Origin Of The Iceman” (7.8)

When it appears that Iceman is losing his powers, the Spider Friends decide to get to the bottom of it and utilize a memory probe on Iceman. Spider-Man and Firestar get a close look at how Iceman came to be, from the time he received his powers to joining the X-Men and eventually meeting Spider-Man. However, it takes a little more looking into to discover why Iceman, and later Firestar, seem to be losing their powers: it’s all thanks to Videoman, and his latest scheme. Naturally, the Spider Friends go after him to save the day, and to get Iceman’s and Firestar’s powers returned to them.

2 “Along Came Spidey” (7.9)

When Spider-Man’s Aunt May is injured and hospitalized during an attempted robbery courtesy of the Shocker, Spider-Man finds himself in a moral dilemma. He blames himself for May getting hurt and he considers giving up being Spider-Man for good.

Iceman and Firestar press Spider-Man for his story as to why he became Spider-Man to begin with, and it helps him remember his original reason why he decided to fight crime. He then goes after the Shocker, who was responsible for the mess to begin with, and with the help of his friends, defeats the villain and saves the day—even in the eyes of Aunt May, who dislikes Spider-Man.

1 “The Origin Of The Spider-Friends” (7.9)

This fun episode is a throwback to when the Spider Friends first met each other and came to be. Peter crushes on Angelica, and meets a little friction with Bobby initially, much to the audience’s amusement. The Beetle is the main foe in this episode, intending to steal inventions of Tony Stark’s. The Spider Friends team up after discovering one another’s secret identities, and are gifted with some Stark Industries tech as a thank-you from Tony Stark himself for them having saved his life twice. They use that tech to track down the Beetle and put an end to his evildoing by the episode’s conclusion.
