The New Scooby-Doo Movies began airing in 1972, producing two seasons and 24 episodes total. The Scooby gang would meet celebrities like Sonny and Cher, or other Hanna-Barbera cartoons like Josie and the Pussycats, and the teams would come together to solve whatever mystery had befallen them in the episode. Some, like the Harlem Globetrotters, were seen on more than one occasion as recurring guest stars.

Regardless, each episode had plenty of gags, adventure, and villains to boot. We’re taking a look at this classic cartoon and selecting the 10 best episodes of The New Scooby-Doo Movies for your viewing pleasure.

10 “The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair”

Batman and Robin guest star as the gang is nearly hit by an incoming plane and decides to investigate, where they run into the two superheroes. The house is occupied by an elderly woman, and everything is nailed to the floor. It looks like the Joker and the Penguin may be involved, and while going after them, the two villains decide to play games with the superheroes, which ends up with them trapped.

Luckily, the gang is there to nab the villains and come to Batman’s and Robin’s rescue. They find that everything isn’t as it seems as the real villain is who they least suspected and that the house is more than just a house: it’s a revolving door in house form.

9 “The Frickert Fracas”

Scooby and the gang happen to meet comedian Jonathan Winters, who ends up inviting them to stay at a farm owned by his friend, Maude Frickert. Winters provided the voice for himself and for Maude Frickert. Soon, Scooby and the gang, alongside Maude and Jonathan, are racing around the farm trying to find a secret recipe and escape a scarecrow on the loose who’s on the hunt for the recipe as well.

8 “The Phantom Of The Country Music Hall”

Jerry Reed guest stars in this episode. Friends with the gang, Jerry invites them to Grand Old Country Music Hall, but when they arrive, he’s nowhere to be found.

Suspicious characters prompt them to investigate Jerry’s disappearance, and they follow his singing to locate him. The villains are disguised as mannequins, and Shaggy gets a chance to hone his xylophone skills, much to Scooby’s horror.

7 “The Haunted Showboat”

Josie and the Pussycats, another Hanna-Barbera cartoon, guest stars in this episode. Scooby and the others run into Josie and her friends quite literally upon a showboat, which turns out to be haunted. Trying to help the boat’s owner so he can go back into business, they all band together to get the ship in tip-top shape but are hindered by the ghosts of Captain Scavenger and Injun Joe.

Meanwhile, Alexandra is up to her old tricks trying to steal Alan away from Josie, and Alexander joins Scooby and Shaggy as the chickens when it comes to solving the mystery.

6 “Mystery In Persia”

Scooby and his buddies run into the Jeannie gang, a fellow Hanna-Barbera cartoon that acts as a spin-off of I Dream of Jeannie, which consists of Corey, Henry, Jeannie and her genie apprentice Babu.

When Jeannie receives an urgent message from the master of all genies Hadji, they all decide to tag along to Persia, where an evil genie and his equally malicious master have a dastardly plan that Scooby, Jeannie and everyone else faces against to stop them. From Scooby’s crush on Jeannie to Babu’s magic slip-ups, there’s plenty in store for the gang on this trip.

5 “The Loch Ness Mess”

On the way to Boston to visit Shaggy’s great uncle, the gang runs into the Harlem Globetrotters and invites them to come along. Shaggy’s uncle has a beautiful home, filled with “like 75 rooms man”, as Shaggy says.

However, the gang’s trip is invaded by the presence of two ghosts that chase them around the house, and while scuba diving, they run into a sea serpent as well, eventually finding the two incidents are connected in one treasure-seeking mystery.

4 “Scooby-Doo Meets Laurel And Hardy”

Up in the mountains to enjoy some skiing, the gang comes across none other than Laurel and Hardy, who have had some unfortunate car trouble. Luckily, they’re headed for the same ski lodge (to look for jobs as bellhops) and they wind up helping the gang solve the mystery of the mysterious Bigfoot, who has been scaring people away for some time, ruining the ski season for the lodge.

Between Laurel trying to learn how to drive, Bigfoot hiding in medicine cabinets and a chase through the cold weather, there’s always something going on, and audiences will have plenty of laughs.

3 “The Secret Of Shark Island”

The gang meets none other than Sonny and Cher themselves in this episode, and they all end up staying at a hotel that’s better off condemned given its condition. Stranded until the road is clear, the gang, alongside the famous couple, decide to investigate the strange goings-on of the island, which includes a creepy shark God and the disappearance of a freighter ship.

Ironically, Cher initially complains about the lack of things to do but it turns out there’s more excitement than she initially bargained for.

2 “The Haunted Candy Factory”

Shaggy finally gets his wish to be trapped inside a place with food; namely, a haunted candy factory, that just so happens to be owned by singer Cass Elliot.

Two green globs have taken Cass prisoner, so the gang heads inside to help her and find themselves involved in trying to solve the mystery of the two green globs and just what their purpose is for haunting the factory. The episode’s just too sweet not to love.

1 “Wednesday Is Missing”

In this episode, Scooby and the gang happen across The Addams Family. While Gomez and Morticia are looking forward to a weekend getaway, Lurch recruits the Scooby gang to be the new housekeepers. Stuck with their newfound jobs, the gang gets more than they bargained for when Wednesday disappears and a vulture begins terrorizing the house’s inhabitants.

Finding their way through the spooky and unusual house, they must solve the mystery and determine why someone wants the Addams family gone, and most importantly, find Wednesday. Meanwhile, Gomez and Morticia are genuinely enjoying a perfectly miserable time at the Okefenokee Swamp.
