Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire is often cited as the best film and book in the franchise. It was the first to bring Harry, Ron, and Hermione firmly out of childhood, while dealing with much more adult themes while, of course, bringing back Lord Voldemort. The fact that Rowling was able to leave the full return of the primary antagonist until halfway through the franchise is really quite an impressive feat.

We’ve taken a look at both the film and book versions of The Goblet Of Fire and come up with a list of its ten most entertaining, powerful, and resonant quotes.

10  “Thirteen Years…”

The dramatic and powerful conclusion to The Goblet Of Fire is, of course, the return of the Dark Lord. “Welcome, my friends. Thirteen years it’s been, and yet, here you stand as if it were only yesterday. I confess myself disappointed. Not one of you tried to find me.”

His words are cold and threatening, and his direct ousting of various returning Death Eaters shows that he doesn’t even treat his own followers with respect.

9 “Is That A Student?”

It isn’t until the very end of the film that we find out that Mad-Eye Moody isn’t actually the legendary ex-Auror himself, and is, in fact, sinister Death Eater Barty Crouch Jr.

As such, when we see Moody turn Malfoy into a ferret (“Is that a student?”), his well-timed response of “technically it’s a ferret” is comedic perfection.

8 “He’s Back…”

When Harry returns from the graveyard holding the Triwizard Cup and Cedric’s dead body, there are a few seconds of celebration, followed by Dumbledore’s realization that something is terribly wrong.

While we’ve already seen him in the flesh, Harry’s words “he’s back, Voldemort is back” are haunting and really make the situation seem real.

7 “I Can Touch You Now”

The graveyard scene is where we really got to see the full extent of Voldemort’s insanity. He had been foiled before, but he knew that he had finally overcome Lily’s protection over Harry.

His manic expression and sinister tone of voice take his cry of “I can touch you now” to the next level, especially when paired with Harry’s tortured response.

6 “Step Aside…”

While Voldemort’s whistle-stop execution of Cedric Diggory (“kill the spare”) is a clear display of his sheer brutality, it was the very first scene of the film that shook us to the core.

“Step aside, Wormtail, so that I can give our guest a proper greeting” were the words used by Voldemort before he needlessly sent a killing curse right into an unarmed, clueless muggle.

5 “I’m Rita Skeeter…”

While JK Rowling is known for creating some very flawed characters, one of the characters she absolutely nailed was the annoying, arrogant, and rude Rita Skeeter. Her personality is effectively that of a caricature and her introduction sums it up perfectly.

“What a charismatic quartet! Hello, I’m Rita Skeeter. I write for the daily prophet. But, of course, you know that, don’t you? It’s you we don’t know. You’re the juicy news. What quirks lurk beneath those rosy cheeks? What mysteries do the muscles mask? Does courage lie beneath those curls? In short, what makes a champion tick?”

4 “Oh my god! I’ve killed Harry Potter!”

It looks like a dramatic mid-point twist on paper, but these are actually the words of a concerned, overdramatic Neville Longbottom.

After helping Harry do well in the second task by providing him with Gillyweed, Neville exclaims, “oh my god! I’ve killed Harry Potter!” just seconds after Harry goes underwater. He’s too busy looking the other way to realize that what he’s actually done is turn Harry into some sort of fish-man.

3 “I Love Magic!”

Towards the start of the film, Harry, Hermione and the Weasley family all journey to the Quidditch World Cup. Harry and Hermione are both mostly used to muggle technology, so to them, a tent looks like a tent.

The Weasley tent, of course, is like a magical TARDIS: “I love magic,” Harry whispers as he opens the door to what is effectively a full house in the middle of a field.

2 “Hermione, You’re A Girl…”

The tension between Ron and Hermione was something that really began to rear its head during The Goblet Of Fire. Previously, Ron had mistreated Hermione regularly and Hermione had looked down on Ron.

The whole Yule Ball situation here really showed just what each of them thought about the other, even if Ron didn’t exactly go about it the right way. “Hermione, you’re a girl,” he drawls at his future wife.

1 “A Really Terrible Loss…”

In every Harry Potter book, Dumbledore is provided with a powerful and poignant quote that sums up both how much he is respected, and how genuinely kind-hearted he is.

His honestly surrounding Cedric’s death is fantastic. “Today we acknowledge a really terrible loss. Cedric Diggory was, as you all know, exceptionally hard-working, infinitely fair-minded, and most importantly, a fierce, fierce friend. Therefore, I feel you have the right to know exactly how he died. You see, Cedric Diggory was murdered, by Lord Voldemort.”
