It’s safe to say that Crazy Rich Asians was a movie like none other before it. Based on the books written by Kevin Kwan, the movie took a deep dive into American-Chinese culture — the culture of the uber-rich in the country, specifically. No other mainstream Hollywood movie had even attempted to make a movie about Asian culture with an all-Asian cast, making it a pioneer in the genre.

Apart from educating the world about a vibrant culture and its people, the movie delivered one other very important thing: laughs. Full of rib-tickling moments, Crazy Rich Asians had a cast which included the extremely funny Awkwafina.

10 “Chickens Are B**ches!”

While in Singapore, Rachel was made to feel very out of place by Nick’s mother and the Chinese social circle, but her bestie Peik Lin (played by Awkwafina) always had her back.

When Rachel proposed to sit out of Colin’s wedding, Peik Lin immediately told her that she was no chicken and that she should walk into that wedding and “Bak-Bak” in her opponents’ faces. This was followed by her yelling this dialogue out across the street in a hilarious moment.

9 “I’m So Chinese, I’m An Economics Professor With Lactose Intolerance.”

Rachel’s mother had warned her that she was American-born and raised Chinese, so she’ll never be considered fully Chinese by the traditional families in the country when she was packing for her trip to meet Nick’s family in Singapore.

Rachel’s retort had audiences in stitches because she really did try to fulfill the Chinese stereotype so perfectly.

8 “Your Dress Is A Disaster. If You Wore A Bottega Gown Like I Told You, We Would Be In American Vogue.”

Nick’s cousin Eddie was obviously extremely rich and obsessed with his family’s “optimal angles” in photos. When his family was being photographed for Vogue, he thanked the photographer, Russel Wong (who is a Singapore-born photographer in real life), for shooting them.

In response, Russel told Eddie that the photos would look great in Hong Kong Vogue, which enraged Eddie because he wanted to appear in the American edition. The blame, obviously, laid in his wife’s dress.

7 ” … The Other One Came Back As Asian Ellen.”

Peik Lin’s whole family was very over-the-top, and a little strange, but always very welcoming to Rachel. Peik Lin and Rachel went to university together and supported each other throughout their time at school.

So when Peik Lin’s dad met Rachel, he wondered out loud how both of them had gone to the same university, but one ended up with a useful degree while his daughter only resembled an “Asian Ellen.”

6 ” … Which Is Why Tonight, You Need To Not Look Like Sebastian From The Little Mermaid.”

With no idea of how lavish her boyfriend’s lifestyle actually was back home, Rachel chose to wear a cute but plain red dress to the family dinner later that night, because red is considered a Chinese lucky color.

However, Peik Lin, who was more in the know about the Youngs and their wealth, stopped Rachel in her tracks and told her to stop looking like The Little Mermaid’s Sebastian, get rid of the red dress, and slip into the disco-inspired gown that Peik Lin lent her.

5 “You Have A Cocktail Dress In Your Trunk?” “I’m Not An Animal, Rachel.”

When Peik Lin dropped Rachel off at Nick’s spectacular home for the party, he invited her to join them. After a few half-hearted “no’s,” she immediately accepted. She then opened up the trunk of her custom-designed Audi to browse through the labeled garment bags and pick something to wear to the gala.

Rachel was obviously dumbstruck at her best friend’s preparedness, and Peik Lin told her that she wasn’t an animal.

4 “To Organize A Party This Massive …” “Takes A Massive A**hole.”

Colin’s bachelor soiree was supposed to be low-key (as low-key as it gets when one is obnoxiously wealthy), but Colin and Nick’s excessive friend Bernard organizes a huge stag party on a personal cruise ship with loads of alcohol, fireworks and naked ladies.

This exchange happened between Nick, who wasn’t a fan of Bernard’s debaucherous ways, and Bernard, when the latter was boasting about the scale of the party, and Nick interjected with his not-so-nice thoughts about Bernard.

3 “No One Loves Free Stuff More Than Rich People.”

Nick’s ex, Amanda, was a complete snake, but audiences did have a moment of hilarity when they witnessed the extremely rich women fighting over clothes and shoes during Amarinta’s bachelorette’s free shopping spree.

She ironically said that despite their wealth, rich people like free things more than anybody else, and wasn’t that the truth.

2 “Chinese Sons Think Their Mom’s Farts Are Chanel No. 5.”

Another Peik Lin zinger, this quote made fans laugh out loud, and also gave a small insight into the fact that no matter how crazy rich Chinese kids may be, they’re very much rooted to their families, and sons love their mothers very much.

1 “She Looks Like A Clown’s Tampon.”

When Rachel decided to go to Colin’s wedding, Oliver and Peik Lin took it upon themselves to dress her and primp her in a way that would be suitable for one of the biggest events of Chinese society.

What ensued was a much-loved sequence of Rachel trying on different gowns and styles, and one particularly colorful number drew this laugh-out-loud response from Oli and Peik Lin.
