When people think about Disney+, they might initially think about Disney’s iconic animated movies and television shows, but with the introduction of Star, there is now so much more. There are plenty of other genres to choose from, and that includes many great romantic comedies.

Creating a great romantic comedy isn’t an easy task as balancing all of the different emotions into one movie isn’t as simple as it seems. However, Disney+ has some fantastic examples of this genre at its absolute best that are available to stream today.

Updated on November 21st, 2021 by Danielle Bruncati: Since Hulu isn’t available in international markets, Disney+ created Disney+ Star, a subset of Disney+ where Disney could upload their less family-friendly content. Since its launch in February 2021, Disney+ Star has uploaded hundreds of hours of content ranging from classics to forgotten titles, including some iconic romantic comedies. The best part is that new titles are constantly being added meaning there are tons of movies to choose from.

15 I Love You Beth Cooper (2009) – 5.3

I Love You Beth Cooper is one of the titles Disney acquired in the 20th Century Fox merger which is why it’s a little less “family-friendly” than most Disney rom-com.

The movie centers on Denis, a nerdy teenager, who declares his love for Beth Cooper, the popular girl at school, during his high school graduation speech and also invites her to his graduation party. Instead of making fun of Denis, Beth actually shows up and promises to make him have the best night ever.

14 John Tucker Must Die (2006) – 5.8

John Tucker Must Die is another title Disney acquired from 20th Century Fox which is why it’s not available on Disney+ but rather Disney+ Star.

The movie centers on Kate, the new girl in town who never had a boyfriend despite her mother being a serial dater. After 3 girls from different cliques discover the school’s “it” boy was dating all 3 of them, they approach Kate to help them get back at him. Together, the girls turn Kate into John’s dream girl so he can get his heartbroken for once.

13 The Other Woman (2014) – 6.0

The Other Woman is more comedy than romantic, but a large part of the movie does revolve around the three leads’ love lives. At the center of the drama is Mark King, Kate’s husband who is having an affair with Carly. When the two women discover his infidelities, they decide to team up only to discover Mark was also dating a third woman, Amber.

Fed up with Mark’s lies, the three women team up to seek revenge. The Other Woman is similar to John Tucker Must Die but operates on a more adult-oriented scale, leaving the high school dramatics aside for bigger and better schemes.

12 Someone Like You (2001) – 6.1

Someone Like You isn’t the most memorable or iconic romantic comedy, but it is one that rom-com fans should watch at least once in their lives.

The movie starts with Jane in a good relationship with her co-worker only for their relationship to blow up in her face. Skeptical of relationships, Jane decides to study the men in her life, including her player roommate Eddie. To capitalize on her research, Jane creates a sex column to chronicle her findings.

11 Can’t Buy Me Love (1987) – 6.8

The teen romcom centers on Ronald, a nerdy high schooler, who helps Cindy fix a dress she borrowed from her mother without asking. As payback, Cindy must pretend to be Ronald’s girlfriend so he can finally be popular. While the whole things starts as an elaborate lie, Ronald and Cindy both discover they actually like each other more than they thought they would.

10 Working Girl (1988) – 6.8

Working Girl is one of the classic romantic comedies available on Disney+ Star, which is one that still holds up as one of the best. While Harrison Ford can be seen as Han Solo on the streaming service, he is shown in a different manner here, focusing more on his comedic abilities.

He plays Jack, who ends up meeting Tess and falling for her as she pretends to be her boss, Katharine. Things become blurred due to the lies that take place within the movie at points, which of course leads to some of the funniest moments of the movie.

9 The Devil Wears Prada (2006) – 6.9

The Devil Wears Prada is an iconic romantic comedy and one that blends romance with the world of fashion. Andy takes a job in being an assistant to Miranda Priestly, who is the editor of a huge fashion magazine, despite the fact that she’s an aspiring journalist who knows nothing about the subject.

The movie then follows Andy as she becomes engulfed in the fashion world which she started out judging. However, this causes problems with her partner and friends as she has to fight to try not to lose herself within the world that she’s become part of.

8 A Good Year (2006) – 7.0

Russel Crowe is the lead role in this movie, playing the character of Max Skinner, a wealthy investment banker that lives in London. However, after the death of his uncle, Max ends up heading to France to see the chateau that has been left in his name.

Max initially travels to France with the intention of selling it, which he eventually does. However, when in France he ends up meeting Fanny, a woman who he ultimately winds up falling in love with.

7 Pretty Woman (1990) – 7.0

Pretty Woman is one of the most iconic romantic comedies of all time, with this movie being beloved by audiences around the world. The story sees working girl Vivian accompanying Edward to several social events, with his rich background making him sharply contrast Vivian.

However, despite the fact they’re polar opposites on paper, Edward ends up falling in love with her, which leads to him trying to win her over as a genuine romantic partner. There’s plenty of highs and lows along the way in what is a funny and very romantic movie.

6 Enough Said (2013) – 7.0

Enough Said is quite a unique romantic comedy as it focuses on slightly older adults, with Eva being a single mother who is looking for love. She eventually meets Albert and the two of them connect well, but she is also stressed about impacting her daughter’s life just before she joins college, which brings a lot of emotion to the story.

However, there’s a lot of comedy as well because Albert just so happens to be the ex-husband of Eva’s newest friend, which brings a lot of difficulty into the situation and plenty of humor at the same time.

5 There’s Something About Mary (1998) – 7.1

Cameron Diaz is the lead actor in this movie alongside Ben Stiller, and the two of them have tremendous chemistry throughout. Stiller plays the character of Ted, who is a geek who knew Mary when they were in high school, and he doesn’t give up on his crush on her.

Despite the fact she is seemingly out of his league, Ted pays a private detective to hunt her down so he can try and win her over as an adult. When he does meet her, he’s reminded that their previous date wasn’t a good one, and he then has to work against a series of other men to try to win her over, with plenty of comedic fails taking place along the journey.

4 Ruby Sparks (2012) – 7.2

Ruby Sparks is a creative movie that brings an element of fantasy into the movie as well. Calvin is a writer who is struggling with writer’s block, and to get over that he just decides to create his ideal woman and write all about her.

What he doesn’t expect is that she then turns up in real life. However, he has to write away the problems of their relationship in order to make it work. The movie combines fantasy with romantic comedy, making it a unique movie that is a lot of fun.

3 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) – 7.3

This is one of the funniest movies available on Disney+ Star, as the movie has a tremendous cast and lots of fun to be had. The movie is a classic teen comedy focusing on two sisters that several characters end up falling in love with. While one is popular and beloved, the other is typically much pricklier on the outside, although the equally badass male lead of the film ultimately falls in love with her.

The movie was actually loosely based on the Shakespeare tale The Taming of the Shrew but adapted for a younger and hipper audience.

2 High Fidelity (2000) – 7.5

High Fidelity is another popular romantic comedy that is available on Disney+, and this one has a good focus on music as well. That’s because Rob is a record store owner and someone who tries his best in love but never seems to have much luck.

He attempts to rebuild his former relationship with Laura throughout the movie, doing everything he can to fix their problems. However, it is Jack Black’s character, Barry that brings a large amount of comedy in this one, with his huge charisma adding a lot to the film.

1 500 Days Of Summer (2009) – 7.7

The greatest romantic comedy on Disney+ according to IMDb is 500 Days Of Summer, which brings together Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel in what is a hilarious and romantic movie. This movie sees Tom reflect on the year he spends with Summer, with who he falls completely in love with.

However, while he’s over the top with his romantic beliefs, Summer is the complete opposite. She doesn’t believe in relationships, and because of their contrasting feelings, comedy ensues, in a movie that is also packed with heart.
