Ben Affleck discussed the possibility of a sequel to The Accountant being made into a TV series. The 2016 action thriller, directed by Gavin O’Connor and starring Affleck, made $155 million on a $45 million budget, making it financially successful despite mixed reviews from critics. Written by Bill Dubuque (Ozark), the film also stars Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Lithgow.

Affleck tells Collider he’s discussed The Accountant sequel with O’Connor, who he reunited with for the upcoming sports drama The Way Back. “There seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it,” Affleck said. The first film was profitable enough that talk of a sequel to The Accountant has persisted since its release, but Affleck says, “The scriptwriter has become quite successful and busy, so he’s off doing his thing.” Still, the star says he’s game to reprise his role if O’Connor gets a feature film sequel off the ground, though he jokingly added, “If they want to produce a TV show version of it and I get some royalties, well that’s great too.”

Affleck also mentioned there was a brief moment in time when they considered re-purposing an old, unused script to “retrofit and make into” The Accountant 2. However, he felt it would be “tricky” due to the very specific personality of The Accountant’s main character, Christian Wolff, which is why he ultimately decided against it.

The Accountant follows Christian Wolff (Affleck), a math savant and certified public accountant with high-functioning autism. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of-the-art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, the body count that starts to rise.
