Warning! Spoilers for Marvel’s X-Men fan vote ahead!

Marvel Comics is currently holding a fan vote to determine the newest member of the X-Men’s main team, and the Avengers have made their choice known. On Twitter, Marvel editor Tom Brevoort shared that the Avengers are backing Firestar in the vote, which makes sense, given her former allegiances with the team. However, the endorsement might hurt her chances of winning.

Firestar is one of the more controversial candidates among the heroes and villains included in the new X-Men fan vote. The fire-manipulating mutant who initially debuted in the Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends animated series hasn’t actually claimed her Krakoan Citizenship. However, Firestar, who has been a member of the Avengers, X-Men, and New Warriors, has made recent appearances in the Absolute Carnage and Annihilation – Scourge – where she’s fought alongside her fellow Marvel Comic heroes. Now, Firestar gets a significant endorsement from the Avengers, who want to see the fiery hero join the team.

On Twitter, Marvel Comics editor Tom Brevoort shared a new image showcasing the Avengers’ choice to win the X-Men fan vote. In the image, the superteam endorses Firestar, as they call her “an amazing friend for Krakoa.” It’s an interesting slogan, considering Firestar hasn’t claimed her citizenship on the mutant paradise. Still, the Avengers are convinced their former teammate is the perfect choice to join the X-Men – even if Firestar is probably the last choice among the mutants themselves.

The second annual X-Men fan vote features intriguing candidates with different connections to the main mutant superteam. The candidates feature some popular characters, including Penance (Monet St. Croix) and Armor, some former villains including Gorgon and Avalanche, and some deep-cut heroes such as Micromax. The other candidates include Surge, Siryn, and Gentle. Firestar, however, remains one of the most controversial choices given her current standing among the X-Men. The Avengers seemed to choose her because she’s friendly with the team and could serve as a liaison between the teams – which might be another reason the X-Men don’t want her to win the fan vote.

The Avengers might have selfish reasons for endorsing Firestar to join the X-Men’s main team, as she could become an asset for them in keeping tabs on Krakoa and the mutants. Will the Avengers endorsement be enough for Firestar to join the X-Men? Readers will find out soon, as the X-Men fan vote on Marvel.com ends on January 13.
