Sarah Trott from this season of The Bachelor shared a video on TikTok to give fans an update on her dad’s battle with ALS. The 24-year-old dropped out of the show after only three weeks to be by her father’s side. She and Matt James had an emotional goodbye, but Sarah felt this was something she had to do.

Monday night’s episode started off with Sarah on the verge of fainting in the middle of the rose ceremony. When Matt realized what had happened, he quickly rushed to her side to make sure she was okay. After a pep talk with Matt and getting some space away from the ceremony, Sarah was feeling better and stood with the other women. Even though Sarah was safe for the week, as she received a rose during her and Matt’s one-on-one date, she did have some reservations about going into the following week. Not only did she not feel welcomed by her fellow contestants, but she also knew she needed to be with her father.

Shortly after Monday’s episode had aired, the former broadcast journalist took to TikTok to update The Bachelor fans on her father’s battle with ALS. “Hi guys! Sharing a quick update. For the first time in a while my dad was up for a walk around the neighborhood lake,” she revealed in the short video. “He doesn’t get a chance to get out of the house often because it’s such a difficult process now…Things that once were so easy like putting on shorts, sunscreen, and hopping in the car for an adventure are much more difficult now.” Sarah had shared during her date with Matt that she quit her job as a journalist to be a caregiver for her father who is battling this incurable disease. During her intro package for the show, Sarah revealed she found out about her fathers diagnosis at 19-years old. At such a young age, it can be hard to process seeing a parent battle a terminal illness.

After the premiere episode, Sarah was overwhelmed by the sweet messages she was getting from fans who supported her for opening up about her father’s illness. “I’m blown away by the number of messages from those who have also been affected by #ALS,” Sarah said in a message on Twitter. “I feel honored to share my family’s experience on #TheBachelor and connect with others.” Unfortunately, Sarah could not take being away from her father for much longer as she struggled to decide whether to stay on the show or not. Not only was she at odds with the women, but she was also missing her father. She even opened up to fellow contestant Katie Thurston about having a strong connection with Matt, but knowing her father is ill and not getting along with the other women was making it difficult for her to stay. Katie urged Sarah to be with her father as she does not know how much time she will have left with him.

In the end, Sarah left during an emotional goodbye with Matt, letting him know she needs to be with her dad. However, she did not leave without letting him know there are women in the house who were “cruel and malicious” toward her. Ultimately, Sarah felt unwelcome by the ladies and was being called to go home to be with her family.
