For seventeen seasons, The Bachelorette has introduced notorious villains, lovable men, and a surprising number of successful relationships, and we’re here to talk about the show’s five least thrilling seasons. When it comes to this popular show, the seasons are not created equal. Some seasons are very forgettable for even the most dedicated members of Bachelor Nation.

Since it premiered in 2003, The Bachelorette has followed each woman’s journey to find love through a series of extravagant and entertaining dates. The Bachelorette actually has a higher success rate in lasting relationships through this process than The Bachelor, with four couples still going strong compared to the latter’s one success. Even if the goal is to find love, Bachelor Nation lives for the inevitable drama over who is there “for the right reasons” and who has a girlfriend back home. Here are five seasons of The Bachelorette that left fans wanting more.

Meredith Phillips – Season 2

The Bachelorette season 1 proved to be a highly entertaining spinoff, and Meredith Phillips had big shoes to fill as the lead in the second season of the show. The Bachelorette was still trying to find its footing and decide how dramatic it wanted to be. This led to a forgettable watch for most of Bachelor Nation. After a bland series of dates, Meredith ended up getting engaged to frontrunner Ian. They broke up a year later.

Jen Schefft – Season 3

Jen Schefft was chosen by season three Bachelor Andrew Firestone, but their relationship ended shortly after the season. She became the lead on The Bachelorette season 3. She was liked by Bachelor Nation on Andrew’s season, but many said she seemed “so disengaged, nonchalant, and bored” on her own season. She seemed very indecisive throughout the season, and viewers watched her try to choose between two men, Jerry and John Paul. In what was an unprecedented finale, she had Jerry propose to her during After the Final Rose, which aired live. She promptly rejected him and chose to end her season alone. Many fans consider this ending to be one of the most shocking moments from the show. However, they were disappointed with the first half of the season. Some even think she is to blame for the show’s three-year hiatus.

DeAnna Pappas – Season 4

A few years later, Bachelor Nation was once again blessed with another season of The Bachelorette, following fan-favorite DeAnna Pappas’s journey to find love. DeAnna was one of the casualties in Brad Womack’s season, making it to the final two before he shockingly sent them both home so he could leave single. Many viewers were invested in her love story after that but were largely bored with the season overall. She famously rejected single dad Jason Mesnick, who would go on to be the next Bachelor, and got engaged to snowboarder, Jesse, though it did not last.

Desiree Hartsock – Season 9

Season nine Bachelorette Desiree Hartsock was unproblematic but did not make for great television and her season has been called one of the most boring. Many fans also cited the overall forgettable men that made it hard to get invested in the storylines. Though she had a few dramatic moments, such as when her favorite Brooks eliminated himself because he was not feeling it, not even that could save the season. Though she is happily married to her final pick Chris (as seen above), at the time, fans felt like she was just settling because she wanted to be engaged.

Clare Crawley & Tayshia Adams – Season 16

Most people can agree that The Bachelorette season 16 was (much like this past year) a train wreck. Bachelor Nation was already divided on Clare Crawley as Bachelorette, seeing as she had already tried to find love on several Bachelor spinoffs. Many found Clare unlikable and, from the second Dale walked out of the limo, it was obvious who her choice would be. This made it hard for viewers to get to know any of the other men. Watching Clare talk nonstop about Dale and dodge kisses from other men was hard for many fans to watch, and most of Bachelor Nation was excited to see her end the season early. They weren’t thrilled with her instant engagement. Though the second half with Tayshia was undoubtedly great, it could not quite redeem the first part of the season.
