The Bachelorette alum Tayshia Adams updates her fans on a medical emergency that landed her in the hospital shortly after the New York City Marathon. The New York City Marathon was held for its 50th anniversary on November 7th, 2021. Only a few days later, Tayshia was in the hospital. Her hospitalization sparked concern among her fanbase, as well as speculation in reference to what caused the emergency. Tayshia recently took to social media to clarify some things about the situation and provide an update about her health.

Tayshia first appeared on The Bachelor in 2019. She returned to the popular franchise for The Bachelorette season 16 where she met her current partner Zac Clark. Some fans have scrutinized the relationship following their engagement on the show and began spreading rumors that Zac and Tayshia might break up. Both Zac and Tayshia have denied the rumors and maintained that they have no plans of splitting. Recently, Tayshia ran in the 50th annual NYC Marathon with Zac in support of a charity called World Vision. Other members of “Bachelor Nation” including Matt James and Tyler Cameron were also in attendance. A few days after the marathon, Tayshia was hospitalized and she returned home on November 12th, 2021.

Having already documented her preparation in the days leading up to the NYC Marathon, Tayshia brought things full circle and provided an update on social media regarding her current condition as she had previously promised. In her Instagram story on November 13th, 2021, Tayshia first addressed rumors linking the marathon to the health incident. Tayshia says she doesn’t want the NYC Marathon to be thought of as the cause of her emergency saying, “I don’t want you guys to think that this had anything to do with the marathon because it actually doesn’t.” She adds that she is not only feeling much better currently but that she has recovered from the intense athletic feat “quite well.” She explains that the Monday and Tuesday following the run was “the bulk of [her] pain from the marathon” but on Wednesday she says she was “truthfully feeling great.” Wednesday night when she went to sleep, however, Tayshia said things began to take a turn for the worse. “I had gone to bed and I was, like, tossing and turning all night because of stomach pain.”

Though she admits that she had been feeling a mild level of pain a few days previously, Tayshia said by Thursday morning she was unable to sit up due to her stomach pains. Tayshia explains that while she has a “really high pain tolerance” she had never experienced a level of pain as high as she did at that moment.   Some medical conditions such as a burst appendix or kidney stones were “ruled out” during her stay at the hospital. The cause of her hospitalization was not the result of running in the NYC Marathon, but instead seems to be “a really bad kidney infection,” says Tayshia. She explains that doctors discussed holding her in the hospital due to her ongoing pains, but eventually decided on sending her home to “sleep in [her] own bed [and] do all those things.” While she says that her stomach still feels “kind of wonky” Tayshia assures fans that she has medication from her doctor for the infection and is getting better.

Aches and pains after over 26 miles of running are to be expected even for someone with as high of a tolerance for pain as Tayshia claims to have, so it seems that the kidney infection simply made its appearance at the worst possible time for The Bachelorette alum. While it is true that Tayshia doesn’t have as much experience with marathons as her soon-to-be husband Zac does, her post-marathon recovery most likely would not have involved a trip to the hospital had she not had the kidney infection. Hopefully, Tayshia is able to make a speedy recovery.

The Bachelorette airs Tuesdays on ABC at 8 pm EST.
