Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Bad Batch episode 15.

The penultimate episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 1 ended on a dramatic cliffhanger – but how can Clone Force 99 survive an Imperial bombardment of Kamino? Discovered by Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, Kamino – center of the clone program –  has always been an inhospitable world. It is largely aquatic, subject to enormous storms that make piloting through its atmosphere particularly treacherous. But in “Return to Kamino (Part I)” it became even more dangerous.

Lured to Kamino by Crosshair, the Bad Batch discovered the cloning facility on Kamino had been decommissioned. The Empire had begun to replace clone troopers with first-generation Stormtroopers, so-called “TK” troopers, meaning they had no need for the Kaminoan operation. Crosshair intended the visit to the deserted Kaminoan facility to be an opportunity to make a recruitment pitch to his old squad, but Admiral Rampart wasn’t especially invested in the idea; at the first sign of trouble, Rampart launched a devastating attack on the Kaminoan city using his three Venator-class Star Destroyers. The city was blasted apart, sinking beneath the waves, with the finale ending with an ominous question: how would Clone Force 99 survive?

Ironically, Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 1, episode 15 has already hinted at an answer to this question: Omega. The young clone knows the secrets of Kamino far better than the Empire, and even seems able to navigate the submarine tube network beneath the city. That means she is uniquely positioned to get the Bad Batch out of the collapsing city to somewhere safe – and, because the Empire don’t even know the tube network exists, they won’t be expecting the team to be able to get away.

This doesn’t solve all the Bad Batch’s problems, though; their ship has been left on a landing platform that can only be accessed from one laboratory in the now-destroyed city. They may likely be able to survive the Imperial bombardment, but Clone Force 99 may not be able to get offworld anytime soon – they are stranded, on an inhospitable aquatic world with no resources at hand.

It’s likely the Bad Batch will ultimately need to be helped. Assistance won’t be coming from Rex or the nascent rebellion, simply because Clone Force 99 never got around to telling him where they were going – a critical tactical mistake. Fortunately, Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 1 has also confirmed bounty hunters are particularly interested in Omega, with Fennec Shand established as a potential unlikely ally. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Shand come to the rescue, although perhaps it would be more interesting if the rescuer were Cad Bane, with the Bad Batch struggling to outsmart the bounty hunter in order to get offworld.
